8/17/07 Lubbock Police Investigate Murder at Local Gun Shop

A Lubbock gun shop is closed temporarily, following a fatal dispute between co-workers.

Ricky Lee Parrish, 48, is now charged with the murder of Wayne Knox, 66. Both men were employees of Fred's Gun Emporium in the 3000 block of Slide Road.

NewsChannel 11 has learned that Knox lived in Wolfforth, and Parrish is a Shallowater resident.

Police tell us that Parrish was conducting a concealed handgun class at the time of the incident. Witnesses told police that the two men were fighting around 5:45 p.m. Thursday, when Parrish allegedly stabbed Knox in the stomach with a pocket knife. It happened as both men were in an "employees only" area of the building. EMS rushed Knox to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Jailers booked Parrish into the Lubbock County Jail just before 9 a.m. Friday.

Investigators have not yet released what the argument was about.

Fatal Stabbing in West Lubbock

Thursday, Aug 16, 2007 @10:20pm CST

A Lubbock man is dead after police say he was stabbed to death in a West Lubbock business. Police say the homicide happened around 6 Thursday night at Fred's Gun Emporium on Slide Rd. They say 66-year-old Wayne Knox and another person were arguing inside the business when the fight turned deadly. The unidentified person stabbed Knox once in the stomach and was transported to UMC where he later died. Police say they do have a person detained for questioning in this homicide, but no charges have been filed. They tell us the suspect and victim did know eachother, but a motive has not been established. Police say the victim worked off-and-on at the Emporium and he was good friends with the owner. We'll keep you updated as details come in.

That is the key to this story, abudant amount of guns in the area yet the weapon of choice was a knife, not a gun.

“Parrish allegedly stabbed Knox in the stomach with a pocket knife”

So much fore the theory that the availability of firearms leads to shootings!

Unfortunately, he didn't get into the concealed knives lecture.

Was the person giving the 'concealed carry' class armed at the time?

The bad news: This is the first time I have ever heard of a murder in a gun shop.

The good news: The death instrument was not a gun.

The unidentified person stabbed Knox once in the stomach and was transported to UMC

Why would they take the "unidentified man" to the hospital when it was Kmox that was stabbed? (Do jounalists actually take an English grammer course?)

The “unidentified man” (later idendified as Parrish), and he was beat up pretty bad. Appears they were fighting and Parrish ended it by stabbing Knox. I think both were taken to the hospital.
