Free at last<p>VANITY! to end all Vanities
the real world | as you read it | Me

Posted on 08/16/2007 8:56:11 AM PDT by SERE_DOC

This is not my opus with respects to Free Republic, but it is my opus with respects to NJ. I hated that place since I left it 30+ years ago, when I joined the Marines vowing never to return (we all know that tune) HA!

But being a responsible carbon unit I accepted a position back there not really wanting to but as my Rice Krispies whisper to me each and every morning, (besides clean your weapons) "it is better to be employed in NJ than un-employed in Missouri".

They (the Krispies) repeated the same thing in Baghdad & Afghanistan when I was there, I can understand the clean your weapon part, and no matter what Baghdad & Afghanistan are far better than working in a cube 8-5 for 20+ years.

But I digress,

I have finally divested my self of that money sucking criminal activity known as NJ.

See ya Governer ButterCup, Adios Gov. "Tax & Crash". I am out of there, finally.

vowing never

When I was a senior in high school, I vowed 3 things I would never do.

I had accomplished all 3 by age 25.

LOL. So much for the best made plans.

The Kingdom of Bahrain, for a time then to NC!

You might want to reconsider that. Unfortunately, NC is well on the way to becoming a New Jersey-style workers paradise. I suggest you look into Texas.

I absolutely believe in purgatory because: for my sins, I was exiled for several hundred years to the Edison (NJ)Assembly Plant from 1991 to 1992. Or maybe it was in one of the circles of hell - it was hard to tell.

Congratulations—I left fifteen months today, after living there for 52 years.

It’s a beautiful state in some parts, but hopelessly corrupt.

The Republicans and Democrats mindmelded years ago—there’s not a dime’s worth of difference between them. And they are both corrupt.

Like I have told my friends, make a plan to get out now. There are bills coming due for bonds, pension, borrowing schemes, educations, infrastructure—and there isn’t enough money in the whole state to pay for them.

If you can remember the Chrysler bailout—that’s what is in store for NJ—and for all of us as we are going to pay for it.

Don’t look back.

I’m in Southern Delaware now close to farms and the ocean, paying one fourth the property tax, one half the auto insurance, and when people wave at you here, they use all five fingers. Imagine that!

Good luck—if you can make it in NJ you can make it anywhere.

For all you other Freepers—you are forewarned.

My guess is that it's because Bahrain is the HQ for the 5th Fleet.

Your daughter wouldn’t have liked St. Louis too much better yesterday. I don’t know what the index was, but the actual temperature broke a record for the day at 105. We don’t have to worry about tropical storms/hurricanes, though. I hope they steer clear of where your daughter is.

First of all ANYPLACE IS BETTER THAN NJ.

I am not a Muslim, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn express once. I am here for a job. After suffering in Baghdad and Afghanistan I moved over for a quiet job with a private company, (IT). The suffering part came at the hands of corporate America and extremely anal Army (alleged) leadership. Let me say if this WOT is lost it will be because of the cowards that are our elected ruling class and the absolutely useless commanders that the Army has fielded in Iraq/Afghanistan.

Let me make this perfectly clear it is not the troops, they are absolutely magnificent, every one of them. They are the most dedicated, humble, respectful, professional warriors and the very best that America has to offer in any situation, my indictment is on the mid level officers Capt-Col and very few senior enlisted who forget (or were never taught) what leadership is. In Afghanistan life was far better at the remote fire bases in indian territory than these idiots supposedly in charge at the main bases.

Life’s travels can take us many different places for sure. I retired out of Camp LeJeune and moved about for 11 years. I have always enjoyed NC, and that is where the bulk of my family is, so since I can’t see putting up with the crap in NJ it was the right thing to do.

Semper Fi!

Bahrain is great! Pleasant days of 104+ and humidity that would embarrasses a sauna. The culture is agreeable and all the squids & jarheads (I was both) that an old reprobate like me gets to hangout with from time to time. Life is good. Maybe at some point I will get to hang out with my bride of 30+ years and have a normal life, that would be novel.

PS I have been to Canton ~ "First Monday" what a hoot, loved it!

Thanks for the kind response. I hope that wherever your travels take you they will be enjoyable and rewarding, and that wherever you return to you'll find contentment. I love North Carolina myself, and I agree it's a great place with wonderful people. It just saddens me to see my home state gradually moving in the direction of "blue-state" liberal insanity.

Texas, and Texans, have a different attitude and mind-set. Freer and more open, more independent-minded, and much more resistant to creeping nanny-statism. They're not perfect, however, by any means. Texans still don't have a clue about the culinary magnificence of "boiled peanuts", freshly-fried "spots" on the beach, or steamed Lockwood Folly oysters! I agree with you about the "First Monday" in Canton, though - it's quite an experience, and you can see some really neat "stuff"!

On a more somber note, I agree also with your assessment in post #36 of the failures of both civilian and mid-level military command leadership and the damage and cost in lives that their incompetence and sometimes cowardice has entailed. I would add to that what I believe to be deliberate ideology-driven efforts to sabotage the war-effort by some of the ACLU-type lawyers who infest the JAG and NCIS corps.

I fully believe many of their decisions to proceed with their insane prosecutions/persecutions of our troops are motivated more by a desire and an intention to use the media pressure these show-trials generate to influence national policy than they are by any so-called dedication to justice.

These people are a cancer in our military which is eating-away at morale and respect for the chain of command, and providing a world-wide propaganda bonus to our enemies, giving them tremendous "aid and comfort". I fault that same CYA military leadership you describe AND President Bush for letting the situation get out of control. Even though the grinding military justice process is finally exonerating most of these troops, much irreparable damage has already been done.

In closing, thanks for your service to your country, and best wishes in your future endeavors!
