Reaction to Karl Rove Resignation
AP via SFGate ^ | 8/13/7

Reaction to Karl Rove's announcement Monday that he is resigning as President Bush's top political strategist:

___

Karl Rove was an architect of a political strategy that has left the country more divided, the special interests more powerful, and the American people more shut out from their government than any time in memory. — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

___

We worked together so we could be in a position to serve this country. And so I thank my friend. I'll be on the road behind you here in a little bit. — President Bush.

___

Mr. Roves apparent attempts to manipulate elections and push out prosecutors citing bogus claims of voter fraud shows corruption of federal law enforcement for partisan political purposes, and the Senate Judiciary Committee will continue its investigation into this serious issue. The list of senior White House and Justice Department officials who have resigned during the course of these congressional investigations continues to grow ... There is a cloud over this White House, and a gathering storm. — Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., Senate Judiciary Committee chairman.

___

Karl Rove has made an enormous contribution to our country and our party. — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

___

Karl Rove's resignation signals the final chapter in the Bush administration's betrayal of the identity of a covert CIA officer. When this breach of national security occurred, the president promised the American people that anybody in his administration responsible for the leak would be removed. Rove, identified by the prosecutors as one of the leakers, not only was not summarily dismissed, but has been allowed to leave on his own terms, to praise from the president. — Former Ambassdor Joseph Wilson, whose wife, Valerie Plame, was the CIA officer whose name was disclosed by Rove and others.

re: Former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, whose wife, Valerie Plame, was the CIA officer whose name was disclosed by Rove and others

They never give up do they? Rove was not ever part of the scheme to out Valerie Plame, period. It was a malcontent at the State Department who ‘mistakingly’ told a reporter she worked for the CIA.

The whole Plame affair, starting with the bogus information that her hubby provided after his trip to Africa, was a CIA operation to cause problems for the administration.

I know I sound like a broken record, but you simply can’t let mis-statements and outright lies like this go unchallenged or uncorrected.

His parents are, IIRC. He has proclaimed himself an agnostic, I think.

Behind closed doors the DNC is shaking. I think they hoped he would retire in 2009 and move to a ranch near Crawford.

“We worked together so we could be in a position to serve this country...”

Yeah. Hot and cold running illegal invaders. And an increasing presence of Muslims in America, not to mention getting bogged down in Iraq, while the Ayatollahs in Iran continue to threaten us with nuclear destruction.

“I’ll be on the road behind you here in a little bit.”

But not before he lets in a few million more illegal invaders.

Thanks Karl and God Bless.

Those of us in the know realize that Rove is just going undercover to pave the way for the Chimpy McHitler / Shotgun Cheney Imperial Dynasty / Martial Law / Military Takeover / New World Order coup to coincide with the 2008 elections.

First stop for Rove is Venezuela for consultations with Chavez about constitutional law; then Iran to get the mullahs’ take on establishing a US theocracy.

Oh yeah, and he’s stopping by China to deliver a load of high tech secrets...

I don’t read anything into this other than Bush has fought his last election and now is into his lame duck period so nothing very important is going to happen in the Congress. Time for Rove to move on.

I can’t help but laugh at the Dems whining today.

And I seriously doubt Rove will get involved in any campaign for 2008. Its my guess he’s going to have one helluva book, and one helluva book deal in the works.

And I’m damn sure going to buy it.

Joe and Valerie Plame are both Clintonoids set in place to stir up trouble and they did their jobs. However, Carl Rove also did his job and though I don’t agree he did always did great (especially on immigration) he helped when we really needed it most: Senate majority leadership in 2002 & 2004 so that we could get 2 great Supreme Court Justices in Alito and Roberts...If he did nothing else, he helped move the court to the Right! To win back the Congress majority requires strong R candidates and lots of voters fed up by the dems...

Ha.. I hope they spend the next year or two spinning their wheels on nutty Rovian conspiracy theories. This will keep Rove too busy to use his supreme court manipulator machine that was supposed to throw them off the track from finding his election rigging/hurricane making/lawyer firing/gas price changing/global climate controller Rove-o-Matic 2000.

I trust this device is now in capable hands and will be destroyed before Hillary becomes president.

Mr. Rove's apparent attempt to manipulate elections."

Now Leahy is suggesting it's a crime for Republicans to try to win elections by hiring political strategists, as if that isn't exactly what Leahy and the Democrats do. What a 24 carat a**hole he is.

Obama again shows he's just like aa the other Dems, a born liar. Bush tried very hard to restore civility to DC, and the Dems would have none of it.

MSM already has Bush dead and gone and the Republican party left with one foot in the grave according to Reuters.

Rove leaves more second-term blues for White House

By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent1 hour, 25 minutes ago

The resignation of Karl Rove, architect of President George W. Bush’s election triumphs and a crucial behind-the-scenes policy guru, is the latest sign of the White House’s diminished agenda and shattered dreams of a Republican super-majority, analysts said.

Rove, the last and most prominent of Bush’s inner circle of Texas advisers to quit the administration, leaves a lame-duck president suffering from low approval ratings, an unpopular war in Iraq and public rejection in the 2006 elections.

With Democrats in control of Congress and brimming with optimism about the 2008 White House race, Rove’s talk of a lasting and historic shift to Republican dominance seems long ago.

“This closes the chapter where George Bush and Karl Rove thought they were building a new Republican majority that would last a generation. That is clearly off the table,” said Cal Jillson, a political analyst at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.......
