Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is turning up the rhetoric in a fight with Lansing over a proposal to reclassify 200 felonies as misdemeanors. If it happens, he says, "everybody should go out and buy a gun. I recommend an Uzi."

Gov Jen stopped all paroles after a guy was let loose, and tortured and killed a bunch of people before the election.

Now, she wants to speed up paroles to relieve the overcrowding that her pre-election policy caused.

Either we have all of these people that she’s kept in prison that don’t need to be in prison, or, she’s letting people out that shouldn’t be on the streets. Either way, she’s blowing it.

Okay, I am not a gun owner, and would have to contact my ex if I needed some advice on what to learn on first, so how about an old persons first gun. I don’t want a pistol. I’m a good shot at theme parks and with toys, probably from shooting my camera for 30 years. How about a long bow? I love archery. Could still poke an intruder’s eye out.:)

200 fresh felons on the streets are going to commit multiple felonies per, mostly because they have learned that the justice system is a joke there are not as accountable for their crimes as they deserve to be. You won't be able to find too many of these guys in divinity school.

And how about this fine justice system? They are not accountable either.

The gun grabbers are out to prevent the public from defending themselves. The are not accountable.

So folks, we're the last ones accountable. If we don't do our part the crime situation will never turn around.

The gun grabbers say that they are preventing the Wild West from happening again. I say to them the Wild West was safer because the good guys were assured a chance of survivability..

The grabbers need to put away their romanticized Western stories and join the real world.

Go to Walmart and buy a 20 ga Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 pump shotgun. Look for an 18 inch barrel. Its simple, easy, does not kick like a 12 ga and its guaranteed to work every time its tried. Its also very intimidating to whoever is looking at you. Then buy a box of number 1 buckshot. Then go shoot it a few times. No need to shoot more than 3 or 4 shots to get the feel. Of course, more is better when practicing. Enjoy the feeling of being equal to anything that walks the earth!.

Ruger 10/22.

Easy to use, very accurate, very dependable, still a value. I started my kids on one at 8 and was amazed how easily they dialed it in.

Good luck and good shooting!

Poke an eye out???? That longbow will skewer your intruder from stem to stern! It'll take a lot of practice to be good with it, though.

True enough. But look at what was posted:

"...on what to learn on first, so how about an old persons first gun. I don’t want a pistol."

huldah1776 asked about something to learn to shoot with. I provided an excellent starter firearm (and one that I still use often).

Jabbing? If you're going to go that route, Cold Steel used to make a boar-spear. Maybe they still do. That'll get your intruder's attention ... ;'}

Not sure what you're referring to by "early Israeli movies" ... I've seen Uzis in lots of USA Hollywierd flicks, though.

Your are right, easy to learn on. The 10/22 is a great firearm. Just don’t expect it to protect anyone. I have seen reports of bad guys hit 10 times with a .22 and it does not slow them down. 20 ga will kill with one shot any person on earth. I assumed the poster wanted a self defense firearm. The .22 is a recreational / small game firearm. As long as the buyer knows that, no problem. So we were both right. Have a good evening.

Your best bet is a shotgun, short barrel, pump or semi-auto.

You could do a lot worse than a Remington 870 pump. It's a GOOD shotgun -- our hunting retriever club has standardized on it for hunt tests. If you'd rather have a semi-auto (and certainly you can get a second shot off quicker) I'd recommend a Rem 1140 or 1148.

I wouldn't get a 12 ga., I'd get a 20 (that's what I have) because of the lower recoil, in a home defense situation that's still plenty of lead.

Then get out there and learn to shoot it and familiarize yourself with its operation. You'll probably wind up getting involved in sport shooting and having tons of fun.

I have a Ruger 10/22 in stainless (the finish I would recommend) but it's not a home defense firearm.

You want a stopper - a .22 is not a stopper. It's killed plenty of folks, but it won't stop them from doing you serious bodily harm before they expire, unless you get very lucky indeed.

Also, you AIM a .22 rifle, you POINT a shotgun. Putting a lot of lead through a .22 rifle is good general firearms practice, but it will not teach you how to handle a shotgun.

How is a sincere criminal, trying hard, going to get ahead in his profession if his victim fails to cooperate?
Almost all crime depends on the cooperation of the victim. If the victim refuses his assigned role, the criminal is placed at a disadvantage, one so severe that it usually takes an understanding and compassionate judge to set right.

I didn't vote for her, but am stuck with her anyway.

Jenny is pulling out all the stops because the state will be $1.2 BILLION in the red in the next fiscal year and her idea of solving it is with big tax increases. She's reneging on agreements made on LAST year's budget and using every threat in the liberal playbook.

ROFL I have that SPEAR. I practice with it in the backyard, makes the neighbors heads turn. It could easily impale an intruder. Also I have...

1 Compound Bow

1 Khukri

Two handed longsword

2 Machetes

1 Gladius

The spear I mentioned

I know it is not much, I am working on getting some more though...

An Uzi? Patterson must not be a shooter, or only said this for effect. I can think of many better first choises for [new] gun owners.

This is California. Class III weapons cannot be owned there. He must mean a semiauto variant. They, too, can no longer be purchased there or brought into the state thanks to Roberti-Roos.
