Trudeau named the 'Worst Canadian' by 'Peg mag

WINNIPEG (CP) - First, there was the Greatest Canadian contest.

Now, a Winnipeg-based history magazine has named Pierre Elliott Trudeau the Worst Canadian.

The former prime minister topped an online poll conducted by The Beaver.

Editor Mark Reid says in the last 50 years, Trudeau almost stands alone as someone who transformed Canada, but also polarized the nation with controversial measures such as the national energy program and invoking the War Measures Act.

The list included three other prime ministers, three convicted criminals and two singers.

Reid says the contest was designed to get Canadians talking about history.

Before John Erlichman’s trial over Watergate Erlichman’s lawyer complained that a transcript of the Oval Office tapes showed Erlichman referring to Pierre Trudeau as an “as*hole.” Erlichman claimed it was Nixon who made the remark and that Nixon “always called Trudeau an as*hole.”

Once again, history is proving Nixon was right.

quebec is in the enviable position of running their own show - entirely. The rest of canada runs on one set of rules and quebec on another. Why? Trudeau, that’s why. Don’t ever give them any credit. Ever.
