ELM MOTT, Texas - A Navy man who got mad when someone mocked him as a "nerd" over the Internet climbed into his car and drove 1,300 miles from Virginia to Texas to teach the other guy a lesson.
As he made his way toward Texas, Fire Controlman 2nd Class Petty Officer Russell Tavares posted photos online showing the welcome signs at several states' borders, as if to prove to his Internet friends that he meant business.
When he finally arrived, Tavares burned the guy's trailer down.
This week, Tavares, 27, was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading no contest to arson and admitting he set the blaze.
"I didn't think anybody was stupid enough to try to kill anybody over an Internet fight," said John G. Anderson, 59, who suffered smoke inhalation while trying to put out the 2005 blaze that caused $50,000 in damage to his trailer and computer equipment.

You mean like certain cult members? LOL
Exactly! The cult with a candidate running for president, who is much like Lyndon LaRouche.
>> Nerds, nerds, nerds, nerds...
Hey, I resemble that remark.
But, like they say...
Q: What do you call a nerd five years after graduation?
But in my humble opinion, the best "nerd gone wild" movie of all time is Falling Down (1993, starring Michael Douglas)
Hey, Russell, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid said you are a Nerd!
I hope he’s not a Freeper.
I would think if he were, this story would be getting more publicity than it currently is. OTOH, maybe the MSM drive-by is in it’s “creepin’ through ‘da block” stage?
This nutcase was in the military?
I guess he was. But nutcases have joined our Armed Forces for many years now. Just look at F’in Kerry and Johnny Bin Walker Lindh.
Hey ND...you can appreciate this...;-)

“Lighten up, Francis.”
There was a statutory-rape case involving a forty-something woman and a fourteen-year-old boy a while back. I swear before God, the woman could have been Milton’s twin sister. Poor kid.
So what happens if we call Shrillery a nerd? Will she sic the Arkansas Mafia on us?? Careful, everyone, we don’t want to get on Shrillery’s bad side, do we?? ...... LOL. :^)
I read that article a little while ago. I kept thinking that some folks just never come to grips with their inner nerd. It always amazes me that some people get offended by being called a nerd.
I learned to embrace my nerdiness a long time ago. I’ve always claimed the term like a badge of honor. That navy boy just takes himself waaaay to serious.
He’s got those runaway bride crazy eyes. When are people gonna learn?
If anyone ever called me a nerd, I would take it as a serious compliment.
Figures that the guy is an FT or FC or whatever they call Fire Controllmen now. Those boys give twidgets a bad name.
I better hide the kitty!
