As if Michael Vick didn't have enough troubles, he may have to fork over $63 billion that's billion, with a B if one Jonathan Lee Riches prevails in court.
The aptly named Riches' lawsuit against Vick, filed this week in U.S. District Court in Richmond, was handwritten. That's because Riches is currently a guest of the Graybar Hotel in South Carolina (it's not clear which town; his handwriting's a little hard to read). The lawsuit does not explain what landed Riches in the clink, but does spell out a number of dastardly allegations: that Vick supposedly stole Riches' dogs for dogfighting purposes, opened credit cards in Riches' name and stole his copyrighted property. ("Mr. Vick uses my name to sell T-shirts," the suit alleges at one point).
But wait. It gets worse.
Riches claims that Vick sold the pilfered pooches on eBay and used the proceeds to purchase missles from the Iranian government, that he has "plead (sic) allegiance to Al-quaeda" and has subjected Riches to "microwave testing."
Riches is demanding $63 billion "backed by gold and silver." Should he prevail against Atlanta's erstwhile sports hero, at least another hometown team will benefit: he wants the loot delivered by Atlanta-based UPS.

$63 billion? Good grief! For that amount you’d think someone had lost a pair of his pants at the dry cleaners.

Hmmmm...$63 billion...of which the gov’t would take $30 billion for taxes. And lawyers would claim $15 billion. This guy would only walk away with barely $18 billion. Is it really worth the effort then? And the sad thing...Vick probably has a fortune of $50 million max.

You're absolutely right... and given Vick's history of being such a law-abiding citizen I'm sure that he must abide by the eBay rules and regulations.
But besides that... it's very hard for eBay to catch everything on there that is against their policy, too. They use bots to scan through items and there is word filters before you even post the items. I know this because I tried selling the Brooklyn Bridge for charity. =)
This dude is probably a nut-case just looking for money... however, it is possible that Vick did sell animals on eBay, just not likely.

This reminds me of a funny true story.
I was in my bank in the local urban area standing at the teller's window.
This derelict character walked up to the window next to me.
"What can I do for you today, sir" said the neighboring teller.
"Six billion dollars--it is in my account, and I would like to take it out, please", said the derelict.
I guess she rung a button or something, because within three seconds two hefty guards hauled the guy out of the bank.

This may be more a situation where people who grow up poor seem to attract more people after their money than people from low profile wealthier families.

I felt guilty the minute I made that joke -Ron Paul is a good guy. He’s a strong fiscal conservative and he’s the only one out there really hammering on the proper constitutional limits to government and how we ought to follow the constitution...
It was when Guiliani heard Paul talking about following the constitution and sneered that it hit homw how important it was that Guiliani not get elected.
But...
“Its the economy, stupid” is not just a clichee.
If Ron Paul finance ideas got implemented and he collapsed the world economy everything would fall by the way side.

In all seriousness, it does seem like guys who come up poor and get wealthy have more problems with the law and with money.
Take Vanilla Ice - he got “outed” as having come from a good home and it ruined his rap rep. But he took the money, made wise investment and is living comfortably for the rest of his life. There are advantages to growing up with parents who handled their affairs in a way that sets a good example.

For all the successful bank robberies, there sure seem to be a lot of stupid or foolish people who try also. Somebody writing in New York magazine in the 70's made the point that in New York State for every $1,100 taken in bank robberies in New York, someone spends a year in jail for bank robbery. Bank robbery is not an upscale crime. Almost all bank robbers are caught eventually and bank policy is to try to prevent violence in the branches but visit retribution when preps get caught.
To: gondramB
I think he has a good chance of prevailing given the bad PR Vick has gotten this week.
