The county sheriff said he won't disconnect a hot line he created for people to report information about illegal immigrants that has been decried as promoting ethnic profiling.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio stressed Wednesday that deputies would investigate people only if authorities had probable cause.

Some Latino advocacy groups will launch a hot line of their own to take tips from people who believe they've been unfairly reported to Arpaio's hotline, said activist Mary Rose Wilcox, a Maricopa County supervisor -------------------------------------------------------

Mary Rose Wilcox got shot in the butt a few years back. I think the injury affected her brain (that is, if she had any to start with).

a hot line he created for people to report information about illegal immigrants that has been decried as promoting ethnic profiling.

That is said as if it were a bad thing. It is very useful and I use it all the time. Fortunately, the police do, too, and the success rate is usually over 80%.

What's wrong with ethnic profiling?
What's wrong with any profiling?
Does someone have a better way to narrow down criminal suspects?

Not at thing wrong with profiling, heck we have FBI schools teaching investigators/officers how to profile, no big deal. Seems that they’re mighty proud of being certified as an FBI trainer profiler. I don’t care what anyone says, profiling is profiling and a very necessary technique if we intend to be successful in aprehending criminals as well as spotting potential terrorists. What a split personality this government has, it’s beginning to devour itself.

...that deputies would investigate people only if authorities had probable cause.

That's more protection than a parent (who is a citizen and thereby afforded constitutional protection) receives from the local S.S. (social services) if an anonymous charge is phoned concerning a child.

You know, if I were stopped and asked for ID, and happened not to have any, the resulting process would be an adventure, and something to laugh about forever.
For a criminal, or an illegal alien, or both, to go to the same experience, it would be described as a very bad day; or should be.

Why is that?'

There doesn’t have to be an anonymous charge. In California every spiral break seen by ANY physician is turned into CPS and investigated. And believe me they track you down. Granddaughter fell off her scooter, broke her leg and went to emergency at the hospital. A week later CPS showed up at my door and had been to every local elementary school to find out about granddaughter.
They couldn’t find her since she was in private school so they came to my house. She was at my house because her mom was working. They asked her questions about her accident and when they veered off to Mom and Dad’s relationship I stopped them, told them that was enough, and it was time for them to go.
If daughter was an illegal guess that stuff would be out of the question, huh.

January 16, 2006 - Walking in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. March with Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox, Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard and Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon.

Hired By Deconcini

Mary Rose Wilcox, and other Hispanics

As a girl, Wilcox was deeply influenced by the political activism of her parents, John and Betty Nunez Garrido, who were among the first generation of Hispanics unwilling to accept the discrimination that had so cruelly constrained the lives of those who came before them. With her husband, Earl V. Wilcox, who was raised in the heavily Hispanic barrios of southeast Phoenix, Wilcox owns and operates the New El Sol, an English-language weekly newspaper serving the Hispanic community.

The couple also own and operate El Portal, a Mexican restaurant located near Grant Park in downtown Phoenix.

My only question is:

What would it take for the border patrol to operate like this sheriff?

Not to mention Republican politicians?

This guy makes it look so simple!

Why am I required to show a photo ID to cash a check, get on an airline, get service at the VA clinic, get a US passport (birth certificate), enter a secure workplace, go to the bathroom, etc.

Business owner group says illegal-hire law will hurt Anglos, too

PHOENIX — A new state law intended to deny work to those here illegally will end up costing a lot of Anglo Arizonans their jobs.

That’s what a group of Arizona business owners hope to convince the state’s non-Hispanic majority of — that it’s in their own best interest to quash laws punishing companies for knowingly hiring undocumented workers.

Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox said fears of “racial profiling” may result in “a mass exodus of workers.” Wilcox, who also owns a Mexican restaurant in Phoenix, said companies that lose some of their work force will be unable to stay in business and have to lay everyone else off.

That's right. As a homeschooler, I read all the time about social workers showing up on a doorstep based on one anonymous call, and it's usually from someone wanting revenge or simply disapproving of homeschooling.

Almost a dead ringer for Rep. Loretta Sanchez of Orange County California, dyed blonde hair and all.

Loretta even resumed her maiden name (Sanchez) to win an election here in Mexifornia.
