Spitzer showed himself fully as a power-hungry socialist when he went after Grasso, for instance. It was not the principle of quality under the law --- it was a class struggle of the proletariat against the rich. He merely sought of having greater means at his disposal by becoming a governor.
I don't know that your FR opponents told you, but there is a huge anti-corporate (anti-capitalist) sentiment here, and those poster may have cheered Spitzer for his war against capitalism.
