Sheriff urged to close immigrant hotline (Illegals In Panic)

PHOENIX - Latino leaders and faith-based organizations want Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio to disconnect the hotline he created for people to report information about undocumented immigrants, saying it raises the chance of racial profiling.

But Arpaio said Wednesday that he won't disconnect the hotline and stressed that deputies would investigate people only if authorities had probable cause.

The hotline began last Friday and has received about 300 messages, which include tips about family and friends, employment, day laborers, drop houses and crank calls.

Arpaio said officials are analyzing the tips and officials have not acted on any of the calls.

"There's nothing unconstitutional about putting up a hotline," Arpaio said, pointing out that U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have similar hotlines.

The hotline is part of an expanded immigration enforcement plan Arpaio unveiled last week that also includes sheriff's deputies cross-trained to enforce immigration law.

Some Latino advocacy groups will launch a hotline of their own to take tips from people who believe they've been unfairly reported to Arpaio's hotline, said activist Mary Rose Wilcox, a Maricopa County supervisor.

Meanwhile, some faith-based organizations are circulating a letter among church leaders and members that decries Arpaio's hotline.

about two months after 9/11, I was out watering the lawn and my neighbor came home with that flag configuration on his van ( the mexi flag on top of the upside down american flag ....

I came unglued and lost it !

I went over as he was getting out and ripped the flags off the antenna as I yelled a stern lecture at him that aroused neighbors and his own kids to come out of the houses

a few minutes later (amazing response time) the local police came to my door to give me a lecture, I interupted the hispanic officers lecture to ask if I was under arrest and for what, if they had anything important to do, did they witness a crime and that I also have the right to free speech unlike the illegal alien next door, said goodbye and closed the door

That would be a good question to ask the candidates. Would they consider appointing the Sherriff to replace Chertoff.

It’s a good question to ask to see whether they even know who he is, and whether they fear close association to a man doing his job and securing the border as best as he can.

It’s one thing to say you stand for enforement. It’s another to associate yourself with someone that is genuine about it.

The left and the Feds argue that immigration enforcement is a Federal issue not a state or local issue therefore the local police aren't allowed to do anything with illegal invaders except catch and release.The Federal government won't allow local enforcement and won't enforce the law because "we can't there are too many and it's racist we need them ect."As we go through the end of Bush's term he will curtail any enforcement and with the liberals in Congress and the media will claim we need to resurrect the shamnasty bill to solve the problem, enforcing the law is off the table.

I'm a Caucasian and a United States Citizen.

I've been working on an old car this past week and that's the response I get whenever I go to any number of local Autozone stores to buy parts.

It's amazing, they've been taken over by (presumed) illegals. Nobody speaks English in there. They absolutely don't care, if you look American and speak to them in English, you get treated like a piece of $hit.

In all fairness, I have to add that in my search for service, I tried an Autozone store in certain neighborhood that I wouldn't ordinarily venture in to, well, let's just call it Funkytown, and got almost the same response.

Except they spoke something that sounded a bit like English, and argued about whose turn it was to go on break so they wouldn't have to give me service. I guess that's progress.

It's just as bad with their competitor, Advance Auto.

I've started driving an extra ten miles to a Pep Boys so I can get someone at the counter to even speak to me. Unfortunately the lady behind the counter is a Grandma and I have to help her find stuff on the computer, but at least she speaks English, tries to be helpful, and is pleasant to deal with.

We need a Sheriff Joe in every town, city, county, and state to get these invaders out of our country.

I wonder if I should call his hotline and give him the 1-800 number to Autozone?
