There certainly have been plenty of examples that are better than Jim Brown. (Dr. J and Bill Russell come to mind, but I could probably name a hundred without too much effort.)

Jim was a football player, an actor, and an angry black man of the 60s.
While angry, he always advocated self reliance and getting out of poverty by starting your own business in your own neighborhood and hiring black people from that neighborhood to work for you.
When Brown could have sat back and enjoyed his money he chose to become involved as an advocate for equal rights and self-reliance. Yup. He looked kind of dumb in a dashiki and he still wears the silly hat.
That’s my thought, too. Did Jim Brown toss some gal off the balcony of a hotel in the Caribbean? I heard that story several times, but I don’t know if it’s really true.
I don’t think Hollywood people were ever that wonderful either. They just used to be able to hide their shenanigans from the public.
