...Democrats invited camera crews to film the arrival of a dozen cots outside the Senate chamber...for the all-night Iraq debate. With rather less fanfare, the cots, unused, were removed early yesterday morning. "They've been taking some of them out," a Capitol Police officer said at 2 a.m. "It was just a photo op."
So was the debate.
The Democrats had the cameras film the delivery of pizza to the cloakroom. They offered barbecue to Republicans. They gave GOP senators care packages of Colgate toothpaste, a CVS toothbrush and Speed Stick deodorant, all wrapped in a yellow ribbon with a note taunting: "A few supplies for your sleepless night. Help us bring an end to this war..."
By the second of three "bed checks" -- roll-call votes -- there could be no mistaking the Senate floor for Hollywood. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) entered the chamber after midnight...an apparent victim of bed head....Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) had changed into a black muumuu...Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.), Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) chewed gum. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) unwrapped a candy bar and dropped crumbs... Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) sat at a desk and rubbed his face, wearing a faraway expression. When Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced that the next bed check would be at 5 a.m., Stevens's countenance turned sour...
At the 5:15 a.m. check, 40 were AWOL, including 13 Democrats. Technically, the Senate sergeant-at-arms had the power to seize the absent senators and haul them into the chamber -- but nobody wanted to see Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) carried in wearing a nightcap and union suit..With so much of the debate a rehash, some opted to debate the late-night debate itself...But Ken Salazar (D-Colo.) spoke of the value of "watching the night come, watching the sun rise here in Washington."

Yellow, the Dem color. Appropriate.
Imagine that, style over substance for the Dems.
Think Tony Orlando, not white feather.
Americans voting for a democrat Congress thought they were voting for a change of direction instead of a pajama party.
I wish I had the transcript of Byrd’s “speech” - he was totally off the wall; I think he thought he was still filibustering the civil rights bill.
Symbolism over substance. Gee;what next? A "Die -in"?Masking tape over their mouths?
Help us bring an end to this war home..."
Fixed it.
We clearly are not represented by our best and brightest. With people such as these in charge it is purely a matter of time before our Repulic goes the way of the British Empire.
I didn't find one bit of this funny.
Yes, but what is the symbolism of Barbara Boxer in a muu-muu? The very phrase disturbs me.
“They gave GOP senators care packages of Colgate toothpaste”
Hmmmm, were the Dems trying to bump the Pubs off by giving them tainted Chinese toothpaste?
I did not find the Democrats’ attempt to undermine our war effort one bit funny, either. I stand by my idea to send them all a white flag. But I did get a chuckle out of Milbank’s descriptions of how they behaved and what they said.
Who’s money did they use to pull off all of this crap? Who was paid to go shopping for colgate toothpaste, what for 100 Senators? or just 50? I am getting more and more disgusted everyday with all these blowhards. How do we get rid of all of them?
I think an educated guess would be that the money for the “gift packages” came from the Senate Democratic Conference, that is, the taxpayers, as did the beds and the overtime pay to the workers who had to set them up and make them, and the pizza.
Our troops are in harm’s way, and all the Dems want to do is promote a photo op for political gain.
I cannot believe how puerile the Democratic Party of my youth has become on our national foreign policy.
Millbank did a wonderful job of making light of one of the saddest demonstrations of the unstatesmenlike behavior of what are supposed to be our finest statesmen. It was about as sad and pathetic as it gets.
If the dhimmocrats are all into “care packages”, Americans should send “Surrender Packages” consisting of a prayer rug, Koran, and instructions on facing Mecca.
See my idea of what to send them in post number 13.
Up all night sending Fundraising E-mails.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Coming from a hack like dana this hurt the rats because he is a rat
With an luck the tooth paste was from China. Have a nice day.
Are you saying you’re hoping the Dems gave the Republicans tainted toothpaste? Because that’s what I think you’re saying.
Thats what I got from it.
