'They Are Not Heroes' (Quadruple Barf Alert)

U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton of San Antonio on Tuesday fiercely defended the prosecution of two former Border Patrol agents whose case has become a cause celebre among conservatives.

Appearing before Congress, a sometimes emotional Sutton said that the two agents — Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos — are solely responsible for their fate.

“They are not heroes. They deliberately shot an unarmed man in the back … and lied about it,” Sutton told the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The agents were sentenced to 12 and 11 years in prison for shooting a suspected drug dealer and trying to cover up the incident.

Supporters said the conviction was a “travesty of justice” and that the agents were defending the United States against a criminal intruder. The suspected drug dealer was given immunity to testify against the agents.

Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., who testified at the Tuesday hearing, said that the agents received a harsher sentence than “the average convicted murderer.”

“The prosecution and the resultant 11 and 12 years respectively for agents Compean and Ramos comprise, to me, the most severe injustice I’ve ever seen with respect to the treatment of U.S. Border Patrol agents, or, I might add, the treatment of any uniformed officers,” he said.

Hunter added later, “This is a case which calls out for a pardon or for a commutation.”

You of all people should know the facts, Sutton.

Hunter should grab the little puke by the lapels and knock his dentures out.

“They are not heroes. They deliberately shot an unarmed man in the back and lied about it,” Sutton told the Senate Judiciary Committee.”

Sutton has never cared one whit about justice in this case — he’s just an ego maniacal bureaucrat bent on putting another notch on his gun and if a few lives get ruined in the process, tough.

That said, it looks like the Senate, including several Dim’s, have his number and he’s going to be in for a rough ride. It wouldn’t break my heart to see him jailed for lying to Congress and end up having to face some of those he’s prosecuted in the exercise yard.

Sutton is the scum of the earth and Gonzales isn’t an iota better for allowing this prosecutorial misconduct to go on.

I guess the one who fired used .45 hollow points. Does that Mexican have any butt left?

They deliberately shot an illegal alien drug dealer fleeing from the scene. I have to say if jurists have a problem with this we need to change the laws.

OK. They are not heroes. I have a high standard for heroes as well. But they were doing their job defending our borders. And that certainly is worth praising not punishing. Bush should immediately pardon these men.

Underpowered

They should move to at least a .40.

Underpowered? The .45 has killed a lot of people. It is really hard to stop the leaking with a hole almost a half inch wide.

Is the Beretta they’re issued a .45? The article linked didn’t include a caliber.

“The United States Border Patrol is the single most dangerous job in US federal law enforcement anywhere in the world.”

Johnny Sutton has unjustly prosecuted at least one other border guard, and similarly to the Ramos and Compean case, withheld exculpatory evidence from the defense. He brought in an official from the Department of Homeland Security who lied to Congressmen in claiming that Ramos and Compean had confessed, lied, destroyed evidence, and said they did not believe the smuggler was a threat. No evidence ever existed for those damaging accusations

Sutton should have been fired first on the list with the other U.S. attorneys. He’s a power-obsessed tyrant bound to commit other miscarriages of justice.

Sutton is just a toady. His padrone, Gonzales, wanted a couple of Hispanic-American border patrol agents to prosecute to show he'd be "tough on his own" ~ a guy with a lot of machismo.

They went out and found a couple of guys who might have made some admnistrative errors and prosecuted them for violating a law that simply did not apply (courtesy of Senator Sessions.)

Well, everyone knows that the real reason so many conservatives support Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos is that we hate Hispanics... uh, wait a minute...

The sentence was so unbelievably harsh Hunter was right to point the comparison. I believe the prosecutor that this man was unnarmed and fleeing and that the Border Agents lied to cover it up. If I were the judge, I would have had them fired and given them 2 years community service and probation. Instead, our justice gives these light sentences to child molestors who need to do this kind of time. Sickening that we can’t get justice anymore in America. This is not the same place I grew up and loved and I will do my part to restore it, physically, financially and spirtitually.

Yes! And, if I may suggest, THEN let’s put a bounty on ACLU types. I can see the little stickers on the car doors now. :D)
