Kennedys reinforce the negative stereotypes and give the Irish a bad name. Mainly big drinker Ted. He must have a cast-iron constitution as he is 75 1/2

Esp. the way he's always liquored up. At his age and his condition you know there's got to be some sort of puppet-master hidden in the shadows.

Shouldn’t Robert Jr have this gas hog torn down?? Course he will just condemn the buyer.

Where do you think the term “shanty Irish” came from?

I think the more commonly used terms are "two toilet Irish" and "lace curtain Irish".

(I'm Irish so I know this stuff)

I remember when anti gas hog enthusiasts buried their cars. Now, hypocrits and opportunists like Ariana Huffington take no rsponsibility for their sins when they trade in a Navigator on a Prius. RFK Jr et al are busy making laws that houses like this cannot be sold unless they are energy efficient, but, of course, such standards do not apply to them.

With all those heroin addicts that lived there there’s sure to be used syringes all over the place.

You would think RFK Jr would be concerned about Global Warming if his mom’s house burns greenhouse gasses like a Kennedy at a Bourban Factory?? Oh yeah, liberals can’t be hypocrites.

I’m flabbergasted that a news article would use the word “mansion” in the same article with the name “Kennedy”.

For years the style manuals for newspapers and TV networks have required that these Kennedy properties be referred to as “compounds” and NEVER as “mansions.”

A $3 million new home would be a lot niftier with a lot fewer headaches.

“Set on more than five acres, the 19th-century mansion has 18 rooms, 10½ baths and 12 fireplaces. The property also includes a pool, pool house, tennis court and stables.”

Indeed. And just how much energy did this monster consume while you and your siblings were growing up there, Junior? Are you buying carbon offsets today to make up for any excessive use of energy yesterday? Or since you are a Kennedy, it simply doesn’t matter as it is your due?

It’s probably a Hellmouth

LOL!! I was actually at an event there as a child. If I recall, there was a trampoline, which I'd never seen before. I got to go inside one room of the house, sort of like a den. A big den.

I have seen smaller homes on Star Island in the middle of Biscayne Bay here in Florida selling for more than that.

That is really a good one , LOL.

Real Estate 101, all real estate markets are local, in the real estate for dummies, one would say there is not a lot of room left in Biscayne Bay, where there are millions of acres in Virginia.

It hasn't sold because it was grossly over priced. They were tying to sell a 1.5 to 2.5 million piece of property at the high price because it once belonged to a Kennedy, in todays world, who's a Kennedy???

No central air (window units) with fuel oil and electric baseboard heat.

And no garage. Don't know about anyone else, but for 12 million, I would expect a place to protect our cars from the elements.

(At the moment, we dont have servants to clear off ice and snow--perhaps you can relate )

I think the selling price was cut because the house is fuzzy.

The great secret of the Kennedy’s is how their fortune earned by rum-runner Joe Kennedy has been depleted over the years.

Their family trust was set up to give many members of the family a piece of the pie, to help insure loyalty. But as the family grew, and their political base expanded, they didn’t pay enough attention to business.

So what was once a financial nest egg comparable to Bill Gates’ today, has been squandered away to just a fraction of its size.

Most Interesting line:

Taxes: $62,079.00

Hmmmm....
That makes me want to see the assessment on this place. Exactly how long have the Kennedy’d enjoyed this massive underassessment/Property Tax Subsidy?

I would think the Kennedy mystique would be more of a factor than anyhting else.

The "Kennedy mystique" can't be factored in. A bank will not lend you more than the assessor assesses the real estate for.

This is a strange story. According to the listing the home was originally listed at 20 million, reduced to 16.5m in Sept 05, and then to 12.5m in March 07.

Great real estate agents. They can’t be bothered to take a decent picture.
