Kudos to Frank. But frankly, I woudn't care a whit about offending those commie SOBs.
I went shopping tonight (single, no date) and had a heck of a time finding food not made in China. Even after all the hullaballoo over dog/cat food, most of the animal treats are made in China (pig ears, twists, little stick chewies).
I put back $20 of stuff at checkout, because it was either made in China or had no origin on it. And I won’t buy Tyson, either. I told the checkout woman about it, too. I wasn’t talking loudly, but there were others listening, too. I had been in a rush to finish, and hadn’t looked in the aisle.
China WILL get the message. I can’t afford to get sick, or have my dogs get sick. Vets and doctors are too expensive.
I stopped buying products made in china when I read the Washington Times article about them covertly supplying arms to insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan. The fact that their products are poison is just icing on the cake for me.

I think that near the end the author is trying to confuse the issue by ridiculing the idea of going China free. Most of us aren’t concerned about Chinese tools or textiles. Those aren’t going to poison us. What we are concerned about and are actively trying to avoid are Chinese food products, vitamins and dishes and cookware, (lead poisoning hazard).
Anybody know the brand name of the China-Free vitamins?
Well, I just went to Wal-Mart and bought a new toilet seat made in China. Will my butt break off? ROFL
Studies have shown that made in China shirts have never killed anybody.
The way I see it, unless flavored cardboard has killed people, I’d first try to
produce poison-free food products if I were China. What a concept. Food that doesn’t kill.
Nope. Mine came from Honduras, India, or Indonesia.
I trust my own gut...........I don’t buy anything from China unless I have no choice and then it’s normally made our of steel. I surely won’t buy any of their food.
It is not just a question of their style of government (Tianamen Square), but has been one of quality as well.
My first ever pair of Chinese wire cutters broke before the wire cut, right at the jaw. They looked pretty good--until they failed.
I remember when 'Made in Japan' meant junk tools (1960s), but the Japanese got a handle on that and started making some fine tools, then "Made in Taiwan" became the crapola to avoid or the 'cheapie starter set'(1970s), then, "Made in China" (1980s-) meant a tool would more likely self-destruct than get the job done.
While Chinese tools are getting better (they are going to need them for the war), I buy American when I can--usually not at Wal-Mart.
I don't put tools in my mouth, though, and food has been a concern even longer.
When the asymetrical war begins (began) against the US, the Chinese will first stock our grocery stores with tainted food (not all, just enough), our hardware stores with useless fasteners and fittings, and our parts stores with defective junk. All the more to cripple us with.
It is a shame that we have gone from being self-sufficient in so many ways to so dependant, and the saddest part of all is that we have regulated our own manufacturing out of the country.
It’s past time for someone to open a retail provider, and advertise “100% American made”.
Whatever it costs.
More and more of us, would go out of our way to shop there.
I go to pawn and resale stores looking for American made items rather than buying from China.
Count me in as one of those that buys American made.

While I can't speak for toys, I KNOW that you can buy pretty much any tool available and get a made in the USA version. They are much better than the garbage shot out of China. Chinese adjustable vs US made adjustable...it's like a yugo vs a Lexus. We bought a Chinese milling/drilling machine recently for a satellite factory. It didn't need to be precise, but it had 1.5 turns of lash on any axis. Ridiculous.
Protectionists!
What's a few dead Americans to save "free trade?"
(For those who agree with what I said, I was trying to be sarcastic.)

We need a 100% ban on all Chinese food imports. Period. The Chamber of Commerce whores can kiss my ass.
In the case of seafood and produce, that means buying American. One of the great things about Whole Foods is that they tell you WHERE THE FOOD IS FROM, generally source from local farmers and are the ONLY large supermarket chain that regularly carries American gulf shrimp.
At one time in this country, that statement about our abject dependence on manufacturing from Red China would have been unthinkable. And the PRC only continues to grow as the new "workshop of the world."
Shrimp from China??? I avoid them
Now I feel creepy when I eat shrimp in Chinese restaurants
uh, duh!
China doesn’t need to worry: Our government will prop them up.
Our own leaders have enabled the poisoning of our people.
They need to be held directly accountable for any harm.
Ah-hem...general question: What is the first thought that comes you your mind, dear FReeper?
A new poll confirms his instinct, finding that 74 percent of grocery shoppers in the U.S. are concerned about food from China.
*******
And the other 26% have no idea that our markets sell food imported from China.
I only recently learned that we are being offered ‘fresh’ fish from China and according to an article in the NYTimes Sunday Magazine, China is the largest exporter of fish to the US — almost a billion pounds of edible fish!, followed by Thailand, 734 million pounds; Canada, 722 million pounds, Chile, 344 million pounds; then Ecuador, Indonesia, Vietnam.
Plant fruit trees. Nothing like fresh-picked apples, plums, peaches and pears. Easy to can or freeze for winter eating. The bruised apples are great for making cider - hard or soft.
