Iraq War: Time to Stand Up and Be Counted
July 10, 2007 | Self

Sorry for the vanity, but I feel we're at a breaking point re: Iraq. Just as things appear to be getting better, that a plan has gained traction, the rug is about to be pulled. To be trite, tough times call for strong measures. The rightroots movement helped thwart amnesty and gathered Eagles to secure D.C.'s sacred memorials. Can we mount a final stand in Iraq?

To supplement the efforts of Vets for Freedom, I was thinking that perhaps a website aimed at showing who among us will stand up and be counted would help. I've been frustrated over these past years by the fact that I cannot join the military due to Asthma (I don't have technical training, so I can't do contractor work - I'm a keyboard pusher). I believe there are many similarly situated people like myself who want to support the mission, but for whatever reason cannot. If Congress wants to pull the plug on funding and/or some troops want to come home, then those willing to stand in their shoes via waivers of age/physical, etc. requirements, and/or make up the financial difference via donations to the war effort (war bonds?), should. I'd like to see a website where people could volunteer to fight or fund the war if Congress tries to pull the plug. Call me crazy, I'd agree, but I think something major has to be done and we need to step up to the plate because the D.C. clock is in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter while this war isn't even at half time. Suggestions, assistance appreciated, haters not so much.

The next ten weeks will be absolutely crucial in determining the fate of the Iraq War. Over the summer, Democrats (and some Republicans) on Capitol Hill, pressured by radical anti-war activists, plan to introduce legislation to undermine the mission in Iraq, just as General Petraeus, and his counter-insurgency strategy, are showing real signs of progress.

Not just the Iraq theater of operations, but the larger war on Islamic Terrorism, Jihad if you will. We cut and run in Iraq, as we did in Vietnam, then the war won't be over, over there. Instead it will be over here. IEDs on the freeways, snipers in the urban centers, vehicle bombs and suicide bombers in the shopping malls.

I’m just an aging vet, but I figure I’m good for something like a Panzerfaust brigade.

How can we prevent it? I’m willing to do anything.

If we leave Iraq then who is going to kill terrorists on a daily basis and where will they kill them?

I know I know, but Congress needs to know Americans stand ready to stick this out. We need to get the message across.

If they don’t want to fund the war or they don’t think soldiers want to be there, then I think a message has to be sent to Congress that a) people will fight this war, b) people will fund this war (war bonds).

I’ve been thinking that we need to mount the telephone blitz like we did with the immigration bill. We need those numbers up to call and we need to know who we should be calling. Some of us don’t have time to keep up with the targets.

First of all, contact your your congresscritters in large numbers. As we have just seen, nothing gets their attention as well as them seeing their gravy train derailing.

Call, write, and e-mail your reps. That stopped the amnesty bill, and hopefully it’ll stop their attempt to cause American defeat, as well.

“I think a message has to be sent to Congress that a) people will fight this war, b) people will fund this war (war bonds).”

Congress has received the message but they’re ignoring it. They know that the majority of Americans support our military efforts against terrorism, and they know that the vast majority of our service men and women are intent on their mission. It is the Leftists in Congress and elsewhere in the U.S., who with the aid of the mainstream media are ignoring the truths about the widespread support for staying in Iraq until we accomplish the mission of freeing that country from the terrorists’ grip.

The same liberal Congress members (including those disgraceful 46 Senators who ignored the wishes of the American People regarding illegal immigration), are continuing to ignore our wishes in regards to the War on Terrorism. These Congress members would rather us pull out of Iraq now, and soon afterwards be attacked again as on 9/11, than lose the political war against the President and conservatism in general, that they are waging.
