Vanity: Will Fred Announce Tonight?
Me | 7/10/07 | Bodhi1

Posted on 07/10/2007 4:24:58 PM PDT by Bodhi1

Fred is scheduled to appear at Hannity's Freedom Concert tonight. I think that would be a fantastic place to announce his candidacy. Any thoughts?

When he ~does~ announce, be sure to put up another thread.

Right now, I am interested in actual candidates.

No—this is a day for the troops and their families and I don’t think Fred would want to take away from that.

Besides, Hannity is in bed with Roooodie already.

Fred is the only real chance that we have of stopping the next illegal alien shamnesty bill if a democrat get elected to POTUS.

What leads me to believe he will is Sean has been talking about a “surprise” at tonight’s show. Fred announced he was going to be there.

I agree that tonight is about the soldiers and kids, but how about Fred giving a big donation and then announcing?

I’m just speculating. It would be a great venue for the announcement.

You can't change the post, but you can ping an Admin Moderator to move it.

To do that, you can add others by separating them with a semicolon in the "To:" field when replying.

Whether they move it or not is anybody's guess.

A great venue, yes. But not great timing. Another day, perhaps. I am also hoping he declares soon, like within the next two weeks.

Sean loves Rudy.

I don't think so.

All the more reason to shove in Sean's face. I have noticed that Sean seems to be distancing himself from Roody as Roody's poll numbers drop.

No, and I doubt he’ll be announcing for at least three weeks.

Not that I have an inside track and could be wrong, but I suspect they’d love to hold out as long as possible. Maybe not september, but right before it. IMO, it’ll be dependent on how much a shelf life this testing the waters stage has before it starts to negatively impact.

I’m just hazarding a guess but I suspect they want to make a big splash with fundraising totals reported in the next quarter, but wish to have the artificial late announcement to make the totals sound even more impressive. Then instead of having to spend all of that money, they’d get to ride the big publicity wave for a few weeks for free and maybe create an inevitable momentum that forces people to start dropping out.

Then, too, whatever negativity there is about waiting, the nagativity dished at the pols that gather at those debates is FAR worse. the less time spent in that environment the better. This would fit with the statement he made today about Iowa folks not liking the never ending political cycle.

As for me, I already consider him in. This is just semantics for me, since I don’t have to file paperwork to be an observer. I’m less interested in the date he officially declares, and more interested in hearing fleshed out positions so I can hear how his mind works, how he thinks, what he stands for beyond the quick bites. The more pressed he is, the more of a potential for a slip of the tongue or little noticed statement that confirms or denys his authenticity as a solid conservative. particularly want to hear more on amnesty.

Once we start getting the candidate out speaking 24/7 on conservative issues, the sooner I can decide if i’m voting for the longshot Hunter, or someone with a greater chance of winning Thompson. Because I’m confident of Hunter’s conservatism. I’m confident Romney, Rudy and Mccain are not conservative. Now I need to know thompson a LOT better.

I believe he’ll start supporting a true conservative. Tonight may be the night.

If Thompson's going to do it...S.O.G.O.T.P!

Me too...and so far this clever coyness is not impressing me.

I'd think I'd more readily buy it if Fred were someone with a great resume of actual accomplishments that the base wanted to pull back in (you know, like Michael Corleone). But Fred has not really done a lot. People like him, and he may be the man. But I think he is merely the beneficiary of the perceived flaws of the current top-tier candidates.

I really don't like this seeming feeling that he can walk in for the coronation, even if he has enough delirious fans to make it happen.

Yes, I heard him on Sean’s show this afternoon. Wonder if Sean is going to carry the concert (audio) on his web site. Would love to be able to hear the concert. It was to start at 7:00PM so has been going on for an hour already.

If Republicans were happy with Giuliani, McCain, and/or Romney, surely Republican Presidential candidate funding would exceed that of the Dummiecrats right now. My prediction is that will happen when third quarter figures are released, and Fred Thompson's totals are known.

Was announced on Fox today that Thompson campaign leaders were saying Fred will NOT make it official in July as previously noted but that it would be around the first week of August. This sounds close to the truth considering the facts on the ground...

I don’t think he will announce before the 15th of this month. If he does he has to declare all the money he has raised this quarter. If he waits until after the 15th he does not have to declare any money until the end of the next quarter and it must be declared by the 15th of October. If you were in this position what would you do?
