(Fred) Thompson thanks Clinton, New York Times for support
CNN ^ | July 7, 2007 | Jamie Crawford

Posted on 07/07/2007 12:39:03 PM PDT by Josh Painter

Former Senator Fred Thompson thanked the New York Times and Hillary Clinton campaign Saturday for some publicity in the “Scooter” Libby case.

Thompson, speaking before the Young Republican National Convention Saturday in Hollywood, Florida, told the crowd how he had been an early supporter of Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s legal defense. “I didn’t know Scooter, but I knew an injustice when I saw one,” the former actor told the crowd.

He went on to offer some word of thanks for the publicity about his support of Libby. “The New York Times and the Hillary Clinton campaign have got us number one on their target list, so I want to report that and say I appreciate all their help,” Thompson said. “If nothing else, we’ve apparently convinced the Clinton’s that it really is a bad thing to lie under oath,” he said as his line was greeted with laughter from the audience...

Finally a case in which perjury needs to be punished with prison. The liberals never thought THAT needed to done before!

Unlike most Republicans, including those running for President, Fred has a spine, and knows to effectively respond to ‘rat demogoguery and moonbattery. That’s the most important reason he should be the GOP nominee.

Fred, Fred - now that you're a top tier candidate for the White House, kinda start to be careful of what you say. Three months from now, this type of statement would send reporters scurrying to see if you actually did once meet Scooter. Just a free piece of advice.

It’s about time someone speak up. I’m sick of all the “NICE.” Where has it gotten President Bush??? Hangin’ out with the clintins...having willie at the Kennebunkport childhood home? No way, I wouldn’t have done it. The clintins slam the prez anytime they can and SHE is nasty about it and then the Sr. Bush has her husband to their HOME? Sorry. Doesn’t wash with me. I STILL think there is something else going on. Otherwise, it just doesn’t make sense! same with kennedeee and the immigration bill. How come our prez and kennedeee are on such good terms? It STINKS TO ME.

I’ll second those sentiments. I’ve been say that for a long time. Playing nice has gained the gop squat. The worthless dems now think that they can lie about whatever they want whenever they want and not be called on it. This country needs someone who will publicly call them liars, cheats and thieves and who will repeadedly slap them down hard. Turning the other cheedk may get you points toward heaven but will mark you as a target to be beaten on in a political tumble. The declared “front runners” are mostly rino in nature and don’t have the will or the nads to fight the political fight the way the dems do. I think that Fred is the one to do that.

I don’t care what it is however, I’m just sick and tired of them turning the other cheek. Bush hugs them and smiles at them and talks to them and they laugh in his face behind his back. I find it revolting. I hope Fred Thompson IS the one and not just saying things to get elected. I’m very leary now after putting all my trust into GWB.

I’ve often wondered about that. At any rate, I would say at this point in their lives it’s time they be men and step up to the plate and own up to anything that might be being held over their heads. They would garner a lot more respect if they came out and said what they knew was being held over them...admitted it and then did the right thing for a change. What a refreshing change it would be too. I think America would have more respect for them too instead of them buckling under like scared rabbits.

>>“Polical”?

> So, they made a mistake. Big deal. We know they meant political. I think the statement is more important than a misspelled word. Geez

1. Accuracy in political statements (including ads and slogans) is important. Incorrect spelling and grammar are not hanging offenses, but they indicate lack of attention. You might say "Big deal" but most other sympathetic readers will tend to cringe a little and say, "Geez, can't they even spellcheck or proofread their own sentence?"

2. Fred is currently being smeared by the left for the statement from Nixon about him being "dumb as hell" or some such. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1862277/posts) No point in fueling that effort with spelling errors. Or do you enjoy drawing fire from the opposition?

3. In politics, saying one thing and meaning another, whether on purpose or unintentionally, is trouble. The excuse, "Aw, you know what I meant", does not help. Ask John Kerry about "stuck in Iraq".

4. I'm not the Grammar Police. I wasn't giving Sturm Ruger hell, I was lightly pointing out a simple mistake for correction if they wanted to. Graybeard58 had the right idea ("Non-parisan"). You, on the other hand, by -defending- the mistake, were asking for it, so here ya go. ;-)

Well, I see this happen now and then I realize not everyone is perfect. Some people get caught up in their passion of the article of which they are responding and so a word is not spelled correctly. I just think it is not that important when we are all commenting back and forth to correct the spelling of someone.

The gop got this way because the twits already in office believe the crap that the MSM has put out about the american voter not liking dirty campaigns. They want to look bipartisan. BS! American politics have NEVER been bipartisan, even in times of war. The voting public has never shied away from dirty politics and in fact have put their support behind candidates who appear strong enough to fight back against obvious political dirty dealing. With the rats the gop needs to slap em hard, slap em often and kick them extra hard and long when they are down. In other words use the rat party tactics against them.

To: Nuc1; Buckhead

I’ve been thinking about those FBI files and wondering at what time and for what people does she not have FBI files. Fred was elected to the Senate in what, 1994, and I think she got the FBI files before that, so she may not have anything on him.

She probably does have files on Bush 41 and 43, so is she using them in some way [dare I say blackmail] against the Bushes. Maybe she isn’t doing anything nefarious but I keep remembering Bob Livingston and Henry Hyde during the impeachment process. She isn’t using them for wallpaper, that is for sure.

Fred served with her on the opposite side of the aisle as staff for Watergate, so they know something about each other, but she may not have FBI files on him.

If I am wrong on the timeline here, I would welcome more information or correction.

Also wondering with the hope of someone else being to add to this, about the videos Peter Paul made of her and they are just now being released by the prosecutor in New York. She is Senator from New York, does she have enemies there? And the eight federal prosecutors that there was such a mess about a couple of months ago, I’m wondering if one was from New York. What happened that they turned this information loose now, and they kept it and wouldn’t release it before. I’m not trying to be a conspiracy theorist here at all, I don’t believe that, just trying to figure out why things are happening now the way they are.

It gives me hope, is what it does. Even if she isn’t convicted of anything, and this is a civil not a criminal trial, it is precious that it is happening now.

What this has to do with your post is that I’ve been thinking about those FBI files and the Peter Paul videos and trying to figure out a timeline and how it all fits together.

Where’s Buckhead when you need him?

Doug from upland has video on youtube of things she actually said. If she lies under oath, there is perjury, and they can prove that she did. If she says she can’t remember, they have audio and video proof to refresh her memory. The only other option that I can think of is that she might have to admit she lied in what she said before. But then I’m not a lawyer.

She wasn’t under oath when she said she didn’t know what her staff was doing, but the Peter Paul video makes it abundantly clear that she did. Whatever it does it is abundantly clear she is not fit for the presidency, not capable of doing the work [lack of morals or can’t remember anything].

Fred is a lawyer, a good lawyer and this speech that I’ve only read a snippet of is masterful. He jokes, gets a laugh and doesn’t sound harsh or vengeful. Unlike her who screeches and sounds nasty.

" FDT doesn’t mince his words and THAT will become a drumbeat before Gen Election time."
Some how, that is what we are trying to convince some slow brained people that, that is what we like about FDT , he tells it like it is, does not mince words, and is not afraid to take on his enemies.
Those traits, and his views on certain issues is why the base is getting excited about Fred, ( ATENTION SLOW BRAINERS ) We are supporting Fred NOT ! because he was a actor, but, he can speak and communicate to the people, his style, and is not afraid to defend himself, our country ( if you listened to his speech last Friday ) and counters back when his political foes attack him.
