Domenici Calls for Change in Iraq Strategy (RINOs running loose)
ABC ^ | 7/5/2007 | AP

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici on Thursday joined a growing chorus of Republicans who are calling for a change in course in U.S. military strategy in Iraq -- sooner rather than later.

Domenici, R-N.M., said he supports a bipartisan Senate bill that would create conditions that could allow for a drawdown of U.S. combat forces in Iraq by next March. The bill, based on recommendations released six months ago by an independent study group, would make the group's 79 recommendations the policy of the United States.

"I do not support an immediate withdrawal from Iraq or a reduction in funding for our troops or a reduction in funding for our troops," Domenici said. "But I do support a new strategy that will move our troops out of combat operations and on the path to coming home."

President Bush has been losing GOP support for his decision in January to send 30,000 extra troops to Iraq to secure Baghdad and Anbar. Last weekend, the president called for patience as U.S. forces conduct stepped-up operations.

We are finding out now who the Republican traitors are since the surge is obviously working and the Iraqi Government is on the verge of passing an oil law.

These people are idiots; this is why I no longer give a red cent to the RNC...I will pick and chose who gets my money. Pete must be up for reelection and isn’t willing to stand up for our country and our troops as he fears the old media who has sided with the terrorists.

I’m beyond disgusted with the weakness of the republicans; they haven’t a clue about what is really going on in the war. It makes me sick; I guess Pete wanted some air time on Meet the Depressed with Fat Dim, Hate the Nation with Bob Schieffer .

I sent him an email and let him know exactly how I feel about his cut and run and desire to turn Iraq over to the terrorists. Fools....all of them!

Every one of them is a disgrace and will go down in American history as such. GOP—Grand Old Party—has almost literal traitors in it’s ranks, and why doesn’t the RNC do something about this situation in an official capacity.

Excellent Nimrod timing, Domey.

It's been two weeks since we started the surge and we're making progress, so now's the time to wave the white flag!

If Bush would have fought a real war on terrorism instead of letting the MSM/Dems/moonbats handcuff him, there wouldn't be any of this speaking out by Republicans.

These guys are looking for an artificial timetable and an artificial troop strength.

The better path is to define your goal, and let the goal determine your troop strength and time tables.

A minimal goal should be to deny that geography to the terror-masters. A secondary goal should be to establish a relatively humane government, strong and stable enough to deny that geography to the terror-masters.

Anything less is slow-motion surrender.

ooh! Now I want to support Repulicans. They can call for defeat as well as a white flag Democrat. Yay!

Point me to the nearest RNC office so I write out a check to keep good ‘ol RINO’s like Domenici in office!

Atta boy! What courage on display here. What leadership command he possesses. Worthy of comparison to Washington, Lincoln, Truman and Ike. that is, if they were cowards that allowed the NYT’s or comparable papers to set the tone of debate on a war.

You mean Bush has reaped what he’s sown. Cheney should go in and take over the Oval by force, or just ask George to go out to play while he does the job. Iraq could have been won so easily, now it’s harder and every Senator-—dim and GOP-—share the blame for caving in to politics during wartime.

You might consider where we are. Boots on the ground requires overwhelming force to defeat, disarm, control and occupy the enemy [ala WW II]. We didn’t muster enough troops to do that. In their absence, all options are on the table. Unless, of course, it’s in its last throes, then we can keep the troops slogging along the mined roads.

Domenici has been a disgrace since 1995 when he declared the Contract With America null and void in the Senate.

The GOP again follows the well-worn script they have followed for YEARS!

1) The going, on anything, get hard.

2) Democrats and their MSM support network scream mercilessly.

3) Republicans RUN like scared children for cover and surrender, thus supporting the Democrat’s specious claims.

4) Democrats win the issue by default, and not based upon facts.

I too am sick and tired of cowardly Republicans and will no longer support the Party as a whole. I am sick and tired that there are precious few Republicans have ANY courage EVER to stand against the Democrats and MSM. Why is it that Democrats can make outrageous lies and issues out of nothing and ALWAYS carry the day and win the debate despite consistently being WRONG.

I’m done.

I would have liked to see 200,000 troops but it does appear the surge is beginning to work. I wish the RINOs would just wait till the promised date and then see where we stand. I’m sure these RINOs fear that their leverage over the President might be eroding if they wait till that day.

Someone famous once said: "Learn to think with more depth."

I believe he was referring to those that would use the word "turd" when articulating their position.

36 years in Congress is much much too long for anyone. Time to send Domenici home, wherever that might be. (I’m not sure New Mexico gives a damn where the old geezer goes). Following him should be Lott and Warner. And a congress without the old groaner from Alaska would be a welcome change. Time to clean house.

C'mon, Pete. Quit being a wuss. This is pathetic.

Good Lord, thank you for NOT having these "men" in charge of our war effort during World War II.

For whatever his faults, Lord, thanks for the guts of Harry Truman and Franklin Roosevelt, who decided the defeat of totalitarians in Germany and Japan and Italy was the MISSION of our nation, and that unless we beat them--even if we had to temporarily make nice with other bad guys like the Soviets--the world their grandchildren of the 21st century would be a much darker one!

THINK ABOUT IT, FOLKS!

If we didn't have grandpas and grandmas with GUTS and DETERMINATION, the world we'd have now could likely be one ruled by a protege/successor of Hiter....

When I think of the PANSIES we have in government now, it makes me SICK to think of the world we'll give our grandchildren: one where if terrorists KEEP FIGHTING US FOR A LONG LONG TIME, we pull out and give up.

Hell, by that time we may not HAVE a nation to defend....the kids will be required to go down and watch the beheadings and the "re-educated" go through their drills down at the local soccer pitch.

I really would hate to see your reaction to the death counts of WWII, where this “turd” of a number was surpassed daily, and in some cases, hourly.

And, in Hitler’s case, he didn’t do a single thing to us, or pose a threat to us....or had anything to do with 9-11....yet, we did the right thing.

Saddam declared war on the US three times after the first Gulf War and firing at our jets performing legal duties is a direct declaration of war.

Exactly, this war was nothing more than a continuation of the First Gulf War, which never officially ended. It was an Armistice, and Saddam violated the terms of said Armistice, therefore the invasion of Iraq was perfectly justified.
