(1) knows what's on the cable channels in the hotel rooms in the first place

It's pay per view porn, and everybody knows about it.

Yes, he served on the Board in the 90's, but apparently made no effort to change the chain's policy. Can't pass up tens of millions of dollars in porno sales, you know, even though Mitt makes a big deal about how anti-porn and anti-R-rated movies (ha!) he is.

BODs generally don’t deal with day to day operational matters like this. BODs are more strategic controllers, overseeing M&As, expansions, and budgetary matters. I’m sure most of what they see is an overall ‘entertainment generated revenue’ line item which would include all pay per view items like movies (regular and adult), internet, games, etc.

'Scuse me, maybe I don't travel in the same circles, but I stay in a LOT of different hotels going round to dog trials, and I didn't know about pay per view porn. I wouldn't have expected it in a Marriott. So "everybody" doesn't know about it (who are you hanging around with, anyhow, that you think "everybody" knows about it?)

Somebody on the board wouldn't necessarily know from their reports, since I doubt they get down to the detail of what TV stations, video games, etc. are provided in the rooms. Probably saw a P&L that said the chain made $X from "television rentals".

"Apparently"? Do you know that he 'made no effort'? Are you privy to the deliberations of the board? How do you know (assuming he knew about it - which I don't think likely) that he didn't bring it up but got no support?

I repeat, this is the slimmest of pretexts upon which to attack Romney.

I hold no brief for the man, I'm suspicious of his many changes of heart on various policy issues. But for heaven's sake, attack the man for something he's really responsible for -- like his flip flops.
