History will be created when a Hindu prayer will be recited at the opening of the US Senate in Washington DC on July 12.
Rajan Zed, a Hindu chaplain, said that he had been officially asked to say the prayer. He said he believes this may be the first time any Hindu prayer is delivered in the Senate since its formation in 1789.
Zed is likely to choose the prayer from the Rig Veda, the Upanishads and the Bhagavad-Gita. He said he plans to start and end the prayer with 'Om', the mystical Hindu syllable. The full text of the prayer will be included in the Congressional Record.
There are an estimated two million Indian Americans in the US.
Followers of Hindu groups like ISKCON may add up to another one million.
July 12 will be an illustrious day for all Americans and a memorable day for Indian Americans when prayers from ancient Hindu scriptures will be read in the great hall of democracy, Zed said.
Yes, but how big is the Congressional Hindu Caucus? Does it even have one member?
The Sergeant at Arms asked for show of hands and Vishuaniceday (or whatever his name is) raised all 414 and carried the motion.
Yeah, well, whatever. Have any Hindus piloted civilian aircraft into any of our skyscrapers, or planted any IEDs to kill or main our marines?
“Hindu chaplain”—Is there such a thing in the Hindu religion?
When do we get to do Scientology ?
no
When are the Satanists going to be fully represented in the Senate? Prayer-wise I meant.
Better Hindu than Muslim.
And the point of doing this is??
Not that big of a deal in a time when our president celebrates Ramadan in the White House.
Our Republic is being made a mockery of.... So sad.
“When do we get to do Scientology ?”
P C run amok!
Will they eventually have an agnostic give no prayer?
Didn’t they do this already when the last thread was posted?
Probably one of those wacky “diversity” things that liberals love so much. What a bunch of buffoons.
“holy cow”! lunch to follow the hindu festivities, catered by Outback Steak House-
SAVAGE announced this a week ago,,,,,old news for SAVAGE fans.
“[When] the [Virginia] bill for establishing religious freedom... was finally passed,... a singular proposition proved that its protection of opinion was meant to be universal. Where the preamble declares that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed, by inserting the word “Jesus Christ,” so that it should read “a departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion.” The insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend within the mantle of its protection the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo and infidel of every denomination.” —Thomas Jefferson: Autobiography, 1821. ME 1:67
This is nothing but pure discrimination against the Druids.
President Bush Attends Iftaar Dinner at the White House
“America is a land of many faiths, and we welcome and honor the Muslim faith in our nation. Our society is enriched by our Muslim citizens. Your commitment to your faith reminds us all of the precious gift of religious freedom in our country. America is a more hopeful nation because of the talents and generosity and compassion of our Muslim citizens.”

Absolutely, two Pakistans were partitioned off because Hindus distrusted the ROP long before it came on the map so to speak in this country.
and a prayer by a dyslexic agnostic to Dog the Creator, if Dog really exists
To show how tolerant and accepting we are of any religion ... other than Christian.
I thought there was talk not all that long ago about getting rid of the Senate chaplin position. Now it's back in vogue I guess.
WHAT?
Is their even ONE Hindu in COngress?
What a slap in the face to the one true God, the Judeo Christian God.
NO, not all religions or beliefs are equal !
I am sickened by this “diversity”. It’s totally illogical.
Sounds like you are advocating the armed overthrow of the goverment.
I
You know, I respect our President, even when he says things that I’d like to punch him in the mouth for. This was one of those things.
I guess he thinks if he keeps saying nice things about Islam, they won’t try to attack us again.
Not true George, not true.
And the point of doing this is??
to set up the natural progression to reciting karanic satanic verses before Congress, of course...

It’s OK to say Hindu prayers in Congress but it’s not OK to mention God in the Pledge of Allegiance? I smell hipocrisy...
Actually I’m surprised...I would’ve thought the prayer would be said in Spanish.
“To push actual American culture aside in favor of the 3rd world”
Yes!
“To show how tolerant and accepting we are of any religion ... other than Christian.

And I thought white Christian conservatives were all racists : )
LOL....ouch.
Government enforced diversity in the senate gives honor to a pagan deity that is an abomination to the Lord.
Somehow I doubt that the Creator, the True and Living God of our Founders, is amused.
That is coming.
This is just ludicrous!
Next “Islam is a Religion of Peace Day”
“When are the Satanists going to be fully represented in the Senate? Prayer-wise I meant.”
All that stuff happens behind closed doors... in kennedy’s office!
LLS
Me too, and I am praying to the ONE TRUE and ONLY GOD... the GOD of Heaven and Earth, to intervene and hear our prayers to STOP this in its' tracks.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

From Wikipedia:
United States Navy Chaplain Corps
The Chaplain Corps of the United States Navy consists of ordained clergy who are commissioned Naval officers. They serve not only in the Navy, but in the United States Marine Corps and United States Coast Guard as well.
Navy Chaplains “promote the spiritual, religious, moral, and personal well-being of the members of the Department of Navy.” They share in the difficulties and rewards of Navy life. The Chaplain Corps consists of clergy endorsed from ecclesiastical bodies, providing assistance for all sailors. Navy Chaplains come from a variety of religious backgrounds including, but not limited to: Orthodox, Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu. They are assisted by United States Navy enlisted personnel in the Religious Programs Specialist (RP) rating.
Where are all the brave Christian men in the Senate standing up against this? Must the country founded on Judeo Christian ideals give equal deference to every religion under the sun just so it can survive, then it's already lost it's standing.
Lord have mercy!
Christ have mercy!
Lord have mercy!
Not good news.
Actually, Pakistan was partitioned off because Muslims didn't want to be in a Hindu-dominated country, not because Hindus didn't want India to stay united.
Gandhi and most other Hindus were very much against partition and only accepted it as a last resort. They may have lucked out.
“Will they eventually have an agnostic give no prayer?’
There’s no way to tell, really.
Well, they don't want to put the cart before the horse, do they??...One might ask themself why they're doing a Hindu prayer first rather than a Muslim one, being that they have the first Muslin Rep in the house. Ultimately they want the 'Ali Akbar', but they know they can't do it without some precident first, to temper that public outcry that would be due.
