Djuric says Polt's suggestion (re the US leaving Kosovo) is interesting!

"What if we were to tell you today that we were wrong and that Kosovo is yours, and that we are withdrawing our forces from Kosovo by Saturday? What then?", the US ambassador (to Serbia, Michael Polt) asked on Tuesday, following a public speech delivered on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Marshall Plan, which was, however, almost entirely dedicated to the issue of Serbia's southern province.

Belgrade. Serbian prime minister's media advisor Srdjan Djuric told Tanjug late on Tuesday that US Ambassador to Serbia Michael Polt made an interesting suggestion, which the Serbian government is prepared to discuss -- that the United States might withdraw from Kosovo.

"This is the first time that the Serbian government has heard an interesting new suggestion, voiced by US Ambassador Michael Polt, that the United States might withdraw from Kosovo and accept that Kosovo remain an integral part of Serbia," Djuric said.

The Serbian government is prepared to discuss this suggestion with US officials, Djuric said.

From what I have read, Polt threw it out there more as a hypothetical question, but Djuric chose to run with it.

As he should have, Polt now even looks more dumb than he usually does.

If only we really would pull out, and admit Clinton was wrong in Kosovo, then I am sure in a few years Serbia would be a big US ally, bigger than say an Islamic Kosovo or Bosnia, anayway!..

Good suggestion by Polt. We WERE wrong about Kosovo, it’s Serbain territory and not that of Islamofascist jihadists. The timing on this is interesting though, since today is that Serbain holiday or whatever, and the anniversary of Gavrillo Princip shooting Franz Ferdinand and starting WW1.

Nah. While the Serbs are getting screwed on Kosovo, come on...their first foreign loyalty will always be to Russia. As long as Putin has his panties in a wad about us, nothing we do will get any goodwill from the Serbs. We shouldn’t pull out of the Balkans to curry Serbian favor. We should get out of the Balkans because we never should have gone their in the first place.

Serbia has alway been our ally. We screwed them, not the other way around.

"While the Serbs are getting screwed on Kosovo, come on...their first foreign loyalty will always be to Russia. "

To say that, DesScorp, you must not know much about their history.

In 1948, Tito broke relations with the Soviet Union and generations of Yugoslavs (including Serbs) were trained to prepare against a potential Soviet invasion. Yugoslavs were afraid of following in the footsteps of Czechoslovakia and Poland -- and rightly so. The Soviet Union was their biggest threat.

When I was in Montenegro in the late 1970's, I saw a Soviet ship being repaired at the docks in the Bay of Kotor. The Soviet sailors from the ship were not allowed to land on Yugoslav soil -- they had to transfer to another ship at sea before the Yugoslavs agreed to repair the ship. Even all those yers later, they were still that afraid of them.

We drove the Serbs into Russia's arms. The rest about "fellow Slavs", "fellow Orthodox" in the MSM --when it comes to politics--is simplistic nonsense. It's like saying that France and Italy are "natural allies" because they are predominantly Roman Catholic and both speak Romance languages, and then forgetting to mention that they were on opposite sides during WWII.

"We should get out of the Balkans because we never should have gone their in the first place."

On that, we completely agree!

Typical Serbian self delusional BS.

Ignoring what you don't want to hear or misinterpreting it so that it says what you want it to say isn't conducive to running one's personal affairs, much less those of a government.

Let Kosovo go. It is not coming back. - Ambassador Polt, 6/25/07.

It is a indirect way (sublminal) way of saying at least he views the Serbs were wronged. Also, his support of Serbs.

"You guys are screwed."

Let's see, who has said that before? The Ottoman Turks, the Austo-Hungarian Empire, Nazi Germany -- all of the above -- where are those groups now? That's right, defeated!

Why do you think that I don't want America against them? Because ultimately, Serbia survives and the political forces who try to destroy them don't. When they are sure that they are right, they are the stubbornest people on earth -and they know they are right about keeping Kosovo.

Don't mistake this -- the US can take Kosovo by force, but it won't be forever, because the Serbs will not give up even if takes another generation to take it back.

Keep dreaming Hoppie.
Lets see what a real man you are by joining the KLA in their impending war of liberation...
I’ll be joining the Serb side like millions of others will and will see you on the battlefield.

I’ll be the one wearing a kangaroo on my helmet so lets see if you spot me.

Well that's just peachy for you if you're not going to look any closer at your ill-constructed argument.

After a little bit of cogitating, however, you can count the Serbian movement to keep Kosovo amongst your list of losers - it's no different at this point than the Serbian movement to incorporate parts of Croatia ("It's Serbian land!") or Bosnia ("It's Serbian land!").

Did any of those failed adventures destroy the Serbian people?

No.

Did they result in the destruction of the political forces which brough them about?

Sure - the SPS is pretty much a footnote in history at this point.

With the local enlargement of both the EU and NATO, it's no longer a case of Serbia vs. smaller regional neighbors, it's a case of ~10 million vs ~500 million.

Take all the generations you want - your dreams of a resurgent Serbia are just that: dreams.

And what would you call your previous prediction that this past January would be an interesting one concerning the final resolution of Kosovo? Bravo Sierra is what it's called here.
