De Mint's statement after vote

| Senator De Mint

Sen. Jim DeMint has it right:
When the U.S. Senate brought the Amnesty bill back up this week, they declared war on the American people. This act created a crisis of confidence in their government. Thankfully, the American people won today, said Senator DeMint. This is remarkable because it shows that Americans are engaged and they care deeply about their country. They care enough for their country to get mad and to fight for it, and thats the most important thing of all. Americans made phone calls and sent letters, and convinced the Senate to stop this bill.
The Senate rejected this bill and the heavy-handed tactics used to ram it through. Americans do not want more of the same amnesty and broken promises on the border. Americans want legislation to be written in public not in secret and they want Congress to engage in an open and fair debate.
There is a better way forward without this bill. The President has said that the border security measures can be implemented over the next 18 months, and they can be done under current law. Now the Administration needs to prove it and stop holding border security hostage for amnesty.
Once we have secured the border and restored trust with the American people, we can begin to take additional steps.

I live in a state with two hopeless leftists in the U.S. Senate, so I’ve adopted Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint as my “true” representatives in the Senate. Kudos to both of them for leading the charge on this!

The President has said that the border security measures can be implemented over the next 18 months, and they can be done under current law. My understanding is the $4B promised for the fence has been withdrawn. The President giveth, the President taketh away.
It's worth noting that the $$ would have been taken away regardless of the outcome of the legislation.

DeMint and Coburn (R-OK)...the two best Senators by a landslide. This would be a different country if we had 49 more Senators of such character and principles.

The 2nd Bush Presidency is over, for all intents and purposes. He spent the last of his ammo on this Amnesty bill and now the wolves will close in, and none of the patritotic Americans he and his old man so disdain will be there to help. Good riddance!

We need to flood the Congress with demands of funding for the fence and extention of its length NOW

There was never any $4 billion. And it wasn’t the President’s to promise. Kyl and Graham promised to come up with it if the bill passed, but I wasn’t holding my breath. It remains to be seen what they will do now. Of course, they could provide the $4 billion, heaven knows they’ll be spending a lot of money this summer, but again, I’m not holding breath.

To: 3AngelaD
The thing to do now, if you have a Senator or Senators who voted against cloture, is to call their offices and thank them for voting the right way. We need them to see that we can wield the carrot as well as the stick.
To: 3AngelaD
The big joke was that the $4 billion was supposed to come from fines paid by illegals. Riiight.
To: Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus
Better yet, send a check to their campaign committees.

Rush just spoke on this $4b that a loophole in the bill could reallocate it to be spent on the amnesty part of the bill if they wanted. This bill got written in secret and they didn’t expect it to see the light od day until too late, hillery’s fingerprints all over it, her old M.O.

We need to flood the Congress with demands of funding for the fence and extention of its length NOW ..people should know that the $4.5 billion that has already been funded.....had Democratic safeguards built in it...money not spent, would have been spent for alien programs....*grins*. Now does anyone think the more than 20 billion needed is actually going to go to building a fence?

"We all look forward to the day that Senator De Mint is the senior senator from South Carolina."
Boxer, Fineswine, the Clintoons, Reid, Kennedy, Kerry and other left wing fascists in Congress will now try to silence Rush, Hannity, Anne and Free Republic in the dark corridors of the capitol.
They need to remember what happened to the Italian Fascists, who gained power before WWII at their end of WWII.

I just wrote Jeff Sessions of Alabama and Jim DeMint of S.C. to thank them for thier efforts in defeating the travesty that was called the Immigration Bill.
We need to show support for all those that actively defeated the immigration bill so that it encourages more like them to run for office!!
