The victims of a violent home invasion overnight turned the table on their attackers, killing one of the suspects, authorities said.
Three armed men stormed their way into the home at 2672 Muscatello St. in the Peppermill subdivision near Hunter's Creek at about midnight. As the suspects were ransacking the home, one of the gunmen fired into the hallway, scattering the five men and one woman who live in the house, said Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jeff Williamson.
One of the men in the house ran into a closet and returned with a weapon of his own, Williamson said. He fired three shots, killing the gunman.
The two remaining suspects ran off. It was unclear this morning if they were injured in the shooting.
It is the third time in a week that intended victims fought back against their attackers in Orange County.

Superb gun control. The guy who bagged the armed perp should be paid bounty and given a substantial tax credit for his good deed in cleaning up the environment. Then the perps corpse should be hung from the nearest overpass (in his neighborhood of origin) until the buzzards pick him clean.

A lot of these Florida “home invasions” are one bunch of drug thugs looking for drugs and cash at the residence of another bunch of drug thugs.
That is not always the case; we have had horrible crimes where thugs just push their way into the home of some perfectly innocent citizen, but this one sounds a little suspicious to me.

The full article says the cops searched the house and found no drugs.
I'm fine with that if the victims requested the search to strengthen the case (no mitigating circumstances) against the 2 escaped thugs if they get caught and prosecuted. But I would have a problem with it if I were the victim. No, I've nothing illegal in my home. I haven't even torn the label off my mattress. :o) That it's an occupied domicile should be all that's necessary to imprison the home invaders until they're too decrepit to run, and the cops shouldn't be treating the resident vicitims as if they're the criminals. JMHO. BTW, anybody know if FL has the felony murder rule that allows prosecuting accomplises for murder if a death results from the crime?

I really do need to learn how to properly use a gun. My dad has taken me shooting but it's at an old outdoor range and he's the instructor.
Do gun shops have classes where you can learn the proper use of a gun? What type of weapon would one recommend for a woman? My 16 year old daughter already has dibs on her grandfather's .357...

anybody know if FL has the felony murder rule that allows prosecuting accomplises for murder if a death results from the crime? It would appear under FS 782.04(3)(m) that it is second degree murder for the two accomplices; the dead one already received his sentence. We also have a 10-20-life law so those two are gone from society.

Thank you for finding that so quickly. I hope they locate them and indeed apply the fullest extent of the law on the 2 scumbags.

Five men and one woman living in the house? What kind of house is that anyway?A house where invading criminals get shot dead. A good house, whose residents do their part to clean up the neighborhood.
To: ChocChipCookie
Five men and one woman living in the house? What kind of house is that anyway? A rental. The five guys were all students at a motorcycle repair academy and the girl was probably a girlfriend.
At any rate, just another typical day in Orlando. Also yesterday, a few miles from this, some minorities, believe it or not, got into a shootout in broad daylight and a 14 year old bystander was shot while working with his father. One of the shooters was 17. Two of the shooters are still out gang-banging, apparently. I can't wait to get out of here.

Sounds like innocent victims in this case. Article says "most" of the residents were students at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute (I'm guessing the 5 men, but not the woman). Also quotes the Deputy Sheriff as indicating that the shooter was a decent citizen who wasn't eager to kill anybody: "He did everything possible to avoid a physical confrontation. The last thing he wanted to do was kill somebody," said Deputy Sheriff Carlos Padilla. "Deep down in his heart, he felt his friends were getting killed." Law enforcement officials are under no obligation to make statement like that about crime victims, and I'm sure they wouldn't if they any reason to suspect that this was a case of a dispute between criminals.

Yes, as I say, it does sometimes happen that these thugs burst into the homes of decent people. Usually, they have some bizarre reason for doing so - there was one where the father of one of the girlfriends of a gang member had worked at a condo and mentioned that some little old lady had paid him $100 in cash for the work he had done on her yard. To the thugs, this meant there was cash lying around; the actual gardener had nothing to do with this, and neither did the thug’s girlfriend. But all it took was a mention, and a couple of the thugs broke into the woman’s home and killed her. They got nothing, btw.

While there are certainly home invasions for drugs and drug cash, we’ve had plenty of them in the south that were just plain robberies. Four different couples come to mind in the Palm Beach County area in the past six months, and these are just the ones that decided they ought to own a gun.
