DURHAM - Duke University has reached a settlement with each of the three former lacrosse players and their families. The university made the announcement this afternoon.
According to a press release issued by Duke, the terms of the settlement will not be disclosed.
In a statement, Duke officials said the board of trustees and Duke President Richard Brodhead had determined that it was in the best interests of the Duke community to eliminate the possibility of future litigation and move forward
"This past year has been hard for many people who care about Duke -- for students, faculty, staff, alumni, families and friends -- and for the three students and their families most of all," the Duke statement said. "We resolve to bring the Duke family together again, and to work to protect others from similar injustices in the criminal justice system in the future. "
The players, Dave Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann, also provided a statement.
"Years ago, each of us made a decision to attend Duke because it is one of the greatest universities in the nation," the players stated. "We were drawn to Duke because of its sense of community. The events of the last year tore the Duke community apart, and forcibly separated us from the university we love.
"It is impossible to fully describe what we, our families and team endured. As we said from day one, we are innocent. But it took three-hundred and ninety-four days, and the intervention of the North Carolina Attorney General, before our innocence was formally declared. ...We hope that today's resolution will begin to bring the Duke family back together again, and we look forward to working with the University to develop and implement initiatives that will prevent similar injustices and ensure that the lessons of the last year are never forgotten."

I wonder if it covers the 88 Morons?
I doubt it includes the “88 Morons” because they were not formally a Duke group. I suspect the 88 will have thier respective socks sued off them which is great.
How about the Gang of 88?
Dream scenario: Each Duke lacrosse player and member of coaching staff will have a building erected and named in his honor with a plaque explaining Duke U.’s guilt...paid for by the University. Also, as part of the deal, 88 professors will be “let go” due to their participation in this modern day lynching-by-lawyer.
I would have told them to take their settlement offer, and shove it.
And a building named Hall of the White Male Patriarchy.
Doubt that’s going to happen! I would rather sue, especially where the facts here are as indisputably clear as they are. I think often the injured parties in such cases are too quick to settle.
88 athletic and fraternity/sorority buildings — one for each of the Gang of 88 — paid for out of the salaries of the Gang of 88.
Well, that’s going alittle too far...;)
I sincerely hope so too. How dare those ingrates who tried to be judge and jury to those three students get off free. They wanted to get involved, let them pay the price of admission!!!!
So like is the coach that was immediately fired will be rehired with back pay?
Have you ever been through litigation as a party? I'm a lawyer, and I wouldn't wish litigation on an individual plaintiff or defendant except as the very last resort. If you can get a settlement that makes you whole, or close to it, without spending thousands of hours over a couple of years or more, being grilled by your lawyers and the other side, only to have an uncertain outcome, do it, even if you think you could get a lot more from a jury.
The lacrosse players have good lawyers, and I'm sure they weighed the upside and downsides of litigation and concluded the deal offered was better -- including the value of these guys getting on with their lives right away -- that the chance of winning more money. I'd be they got close to enough to cover their legal fees, net of the legal fees for this settlement.

____________
He resigned, he was not fired.
The 88 morons are probably on their own.
I’m not aware of anything Duke did that would result in a sucessful suit. Cancelling the soceer season because of a party where there was underage drinking is a little drastic, but could be defended. Don’t get me wrong, I think Duke treated these young men horribly, but I don’t think the legal case would have been that strong.
As for the 88 however: libel, defamation, inflicting emotional distress ... lots of goodies to go after there.
They are kids. Why would they want to subject themselves to any more of this BS?
The coach has also settled - and has a book coming out, I understand.
Any settlement that doesn’t include the IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL of that PC feckless imbecile Duke President - Mr. Brodhead and the black racist and feminazi rent a mob of 88 “professors’ would be incomplete....and unsatisfactory.
Fire them ALL......
The irrational black racist moronic behavior of the 88 Professors, the “New Black Panthers”, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and most of the black citizens of Durham — demonstrates CLEARLY why so many of their race are still enslaved on the “leftist’s plantation” by their own ignorance, greed and immorality.
Notice - there is STILL denial of the facts of this case in the black community..
Notice - there has STILL not been any condemnation of the lying whore whose lies created this costly and devastating experience for the boy’s families, their own community and Duke University..
I hope the settlements come right off the top of “set asides” for Affirmative Action hires and Welfare payments...
