No problem...always had great interst in and feeling for the US Navy, its history, equipment, philosophy, personnel, etc. Something about those stories my Dad told me as a boy about when he served in World War II in the Pacific.

IMHO, overall, the Arleigh Burke design is the most successful, most powerful class of destroyers in the history of naval warfare. We have 52 now and are building ten more.
Thank you, and God bless you and your son for his service to our nation.

Well, it is good to have strong allies and to train with them and be prepared for any eventuality or contingency. For example, the UK, Italy, Spain, Australia, the JMSDF, the ROKN, etc. All are solid allies whose forces would be critical in the event of any major hostilities. When you add our navy to those so mentioned, the numbers are very impressive.
I have my doubts about the advisability...or capability, of bringing forces like the PLAN, or other such potential belligerents into it until they make significant changes in their governmental form.

A thousand ship Navy would be great but the medical care for the sailors had better get better than it is now.
From very recent family experience I found how just how poor the health care is that some of our sailors are receiving.

I was recently in the Pacific Northwest on a business trip, and while driving through, I stopped in Bremerton. I was able to walk through the USS Turner Joy (DD-951) without a tour guide escort or tourists. I spent over an hour on this historic ship, and it’s one of the most moving moments in my life.
Thanks for the great pictures.

Interesting.....something was photoshopped out of the right side of the first picture. A sub? Another ship? Was it to hide something about carrier operations or was it just to make the picture look better?

The only part of the Navy that “fights” are the Marines and the SeALs. Other than that, it is the Army that carries almost the entire load.
THe Navy is 99% mechanics and cooks.

The plan is to make the thousand ships up with ships from the Indian navy, among others. Mullen is not calling for the US to have naval superiority. We are not building more ships.

Help your Navy and the other sea services by becoming a member of the
Navy League of the United States. It is an excellent way for civilians and retired military to be involved.

Of course the 76 on the port side of the Island tells us that this is CVN-76 USS Ronald Reagan not CVN-68 USS Nimitz as your URL, http://www.jeffhead.com/usnavyfavoritepics/2007/nimitz%20sound.jpg, would mislead some to believe. Taken during her transit of the Straits of Magellan on 21 June 2004. Sloppy.

Ok...you were right and got me to see the error of my ways. Take a look now. It’s the twenty-five favorite pics and I found a couple more...including one of the 1st surface at the North Pole by a US sub in something like 30 years.

Actually...the Nimitz in that name refers to the Nimitz class, which the USS Ronald Reagan belongs to. Perhaps you could have considered that, or maybe contacted me or asked me about it before making such a public, negative allegation.
The passage was indeed made in 2004...but the picture came to my attention in 2006. As the home page states, I will post those pictures brought to my attention in the last half of the preceeding year and the first half of the current year.

There are tens of thousands of dead sailors throughout our histroy who would argue with you from the realm beyond. They fought and died defending you, just as our brave soldiers have done.
One day, when you have to depend on their aircraft, their missiles, their fire suport, or depend on them to get you through hostile waters from one place to another...you may appreciate that fact.
