Very nice, succinct reply. 4.0!
Do you know which carrier this is?

No excuse in th e least...just fact. Look at the other Nimitz pictures on that page and you will see that they all say Nimitz and do not call out the individual hull numbers.
You can be as nit picky and honery as you wish, but it will not change the facts about what I did on the page or why.
Its amazing to me that a simple act of trying to honor our naval forces can be looked upon and nit picked in this fashion...but that's your choice.
I tried to give a civil response...but I guess I'll just choose to just ignore it from here on in.

Exactly. Wish we still had Reagan in charge. Perhaps, in these times, another such individual will come along. In our history as a nation, it seems that someone is always called or raised up when we need them...and then the people are wise enough to see it. Like was the case IMHO with Reagan.

We were lucky to have one Reagan in our lifetime.
Another would be divine intervention.

Thank you, sir.
The pictures were given to me by my father who was stationed on the USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) for most of the Pacific campaign. They were taken on May 11th, 1945, the day the Bunker Hill was hit by two kamikazes, losing nearly 400 sailors and marines. My father was a corpman aboard the ship, and he tells me that all of his immediate friends perished on that day. He's ninety-one and it's still hard for him to talk about it. He gave me the pictures last year with tears streaming down his cheeks.

How can you narrow them down? Any list must be 100s long, but this is a great start!

I personally think the first was divine intervention. The dems controlled congress tightly...and then came Reagan and he was elected overwhelmingly in the face of that and then got a lot of things done, despite their control.

THe Navy is 99% mechanics and cooks. I assume you are making a (lame) joke.
1. The Marines are a department of the Navy. (The Men's department).
2. Naval Aviators (pilots to you) have a long and successful tradition of pounding our enemies flat.
3. Review the history of WWII. Without the Navy we would be speaking German, or Japanese.

Back in the day, more that 20 years ago, there were Marine Detachments in U.S. Navy ships.
I was priviledged to serve in one. Not the easiest duty I ever had but one of the most rewarding in memories.

Yes, the Bunker Hill was hit by the two kamikazes, and try as they might, the Japanese were unable to sink her. And BTW, that day she gave as good as she got.
When the smoke clear, the Bunker Hill limped back to Bremerton, bloody but unbowed.

I wish I was young again.
Imagine someone asking which ship you are on.
"I'm on the Reagan."
It would make me proud to say that.

...and God bless her and all those men who served on her.
My Dad also served in WWII in the PTO. He was an executive officer on an LCI landing Marines on hostile beaches...but he was with MacArthur.
He always expressed his appreciation for the cover and protection that the escort ships and carriers gave his flotilla.
