President George W. Bush delivers remarks at the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast at the Andrew Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C., Thursday, June 16, 2005. "In America, people of faith have no corner on compassion, but people of faith need compassion to be true to the call to "Ame al projimo como a sí mismo," love your neighbor like you'd like to be loved yourself. That's a universal call," said the President. White House photo by Eric Draper

So we are either compassionate, or we are for the rule of law? That's a false choice, Mr. President.

love your neighbor like you'd like to be loved yourself How about this? If I'm breaking the law I damned well expect my neighbors to be calling me on the carpet for it.

The rule of law
is compassionate, Mr. Bush. It's what our nation was founded on.
How about this one, Mr. President: Treat the American taxpayer's rights and money the way you'd like your rights and money to be treated.

Compassion and rule of law are not relational items. Compassion is a choice on the individual level, rule of law is part of the system.
Just like one cannot choose to make a law themselves (as an individual) that effects others, a system cannot ‘show compassion’.

That’s the reason we have laws — we can’t depend on how a person feels at any given moment, compassion or intolerate, etc., as to how citizens are treated or how we treat each other.

I don’t love illegals enough. I’m a bad bad man.
He has finally convinced me on amnesty with his sage and cogent logic.
BTW, this proves beyond doubt that he has flipped.

On this issue however, I can think of no one more deserving of derision. That is pretty harsh and very disrespectful. Certainly we can disagree with him on this subject, as most of us do, but to hold him up to ridicule for this?
I hope that we here at Free Republic can still respect a person we disagree with. But if you want derision of the President, you will find it at DU.

Arrogance will do that to people! Just look at the other traitors in his little group of new, best friends. Pansy Lindseee Grahamnesty, John Madman McCain, Air head Trent Lott, Teddy the swimmer Kennedy, Arlen the I are better than you are Specter. You can see the arrogance dripping off of them.
