Those are the scribblings of base commander Ripper from the movie Dr. Strangelove. Ripper thinks the addition of flouride to our water is a Communist conspiracy to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids. So he orders a nuclear first strike against Russia in order to get us in nuclear combat toe to toe with the rooskies. Exchange officer Mandrake tries to figure out the recall code after Ripper shoots himself in the head. He finds a paper on Ripper's desk that has variations of OPE and POE written on it, so he correctly figures that those letters are part of the recall code.

The letters can also be seen scrawled on the bathroom wall in a scene from the movie Raising Arizona.

"LET'S HAVE MORE "FREE TRADE"

Now you've done it. The tiny FR gaggle of "free traitors" will be coming out of the woodwork now.

Battle Stations!

have you never wondered why I drink only distilled water, or rain water, and only pure grain alcohol?

Did you hear about the girl with the gleem in her eye?

Or about the boy with the crest on his chin?

I checked my Crest when the toothpaste problem first appeared and found the same thing you did. I guess it depends on the law. With canned food, if it is grown/processed out of the country, the label must tell you. So if it doesn’t say, you can assume it’s from the US. I don’t know the laws governing items like toothpaste.

No we have not had it tested.

We were going to put in a water softener but the Kelligan man said there was no need to do it. A softener would have made a too small difference.

I would like to get it tested in a lab of some kind but don’t know where to take it.

There is no regulation to that effect. The label must contain the manufacturer/food processor's or distributor's name (which is usually a US company), but not the source of the food, which would be (and sometimes is) indicated by the words "Product of (name of country)."

So if it doesn’t say, you can assume it’s from the US.

Actually, you can usually assume just the opposite.

Frankly, Ripper(?), I had not, but that doesn't negate your clear wisdom in doing so. I'm surprised at the number of Colgate users. I thought nearly everyone was like me, compelled toward Crest because of the words reverberating in my brain since childhood (likely due to extended exposure to subliminal advertising):

Crest has been shown to be an effective, decay-preventive dentrifice when used in a conscientiously-applied program of oral hygiene and regular, professional care!

...and seals off a US Air Force Base in the process. Other US military forces descend on the 'occupied' Base and a huge battle ensues all around the very large BILLBOARD on Base that proclaims: Peace Is Our Profession...

You mean I’m going blind, bald, and dying because of flouride!? And here I thought it was old age...

And speaking of fun facts, years ago I heard they were using rat poision to flouridate our water. So I called the water bureau and asked what they were using. They told me they used sodium hexaflourosilicate. I looked that up in the chemistry handbook at the university, and it said it was a waste product from the aluminum industry, and was used for rat poison, moth repellent in cattle, glass etching, and in small doses flouridating water.

Yummy

Sorry! (However, thinking solely in economic terms shows a want of brains. Life is political, cultural, religious, and yes even biological i.e. public health and further etc. etc.)

The concept of “Free Trade” in isolation overlooks every other aspect of a nations life from political matters, laws, cultural, public health, education to zoology.) Further, Thomas Carlyle was right Free Trade means “Cheap and Nasty.”(Witness the toothpaste and dog food scams.)
