A fatwa free-for-all in the Islamic world
International Herald Tribune ^ | June 11, 2007 | Michael Slackman

CAIRO: First came the breast-feeding fatwa: It declared that the Islamic restriction on unmarried men and women being together could be lifted at work if the woman breast-fed her male colleagues five times. Then came the urine fatwa: It said that drinking the urine of the Prophet Muhammad was deemed a blessing.

For the past few weeks, the breast-feeding and urine fatwas have proved a source of national embarrassment in Egypt, not least because they were issued by representatives of the highest religious authorities in the land.

"We were very angered when we heard about the Danish cartoons concerning our Prophet," ..... "However, these two fatwas are harming our Islamic religion and our Prophet more than the cartoons."

For many Muslims, fatwas, or religious edicts, are the bridge between the principles of their faith and modern life. They are supposed to be issued by religious scholars who look to the Koran and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad for guidance.

While the more sensational pronouncements grab attention, the bulk of the fatwas involve the routine of daily life. In Egypt alone, thousands are issued every month.

The controversy in Cairo has been more than just embarrassing. It comes at a time when religious and political leaders say there is a crisis in Islam because too many fatwas are being issued and many rely on ideology more than learning.

****

Technically, the fatwa is nonbinding and recipients are free to shop around for a better ruling. In a faith with no central doctrinal authority, there has been an explosion of places offering fatwas, ....

"There is chaos now," Megawer said. "The problem created is confusion in thought, confusion about what is right and what is wrong religiously."

These ‘fatwas’ show just how looney Islamics are.

Ok, I want all the unmarried hot young sexy girls here at work to breastfeed me five time each. You know, to keep me from thinking lustful thoughts. It’s for the best...

These fatwa’s remind me of the “Bewitched” TV show... all these incompetent witches casting spells that only they can cancel. It’s quite funny.

i wonder if I could set up a website with a Web form where you fill in a few words, and then it spits out a fatwa, sort of like Islamic Mad-Libs.

e.g. "horse" "woman" "toothpaste" gives you "It is forbidden for a horse and a woman to share the same package of toothpaste."

Didn’t hear about the urine fatwa... And my life was happier because of it. Now I am left wondering how this is logically possible. Oh, wait, knowing the Middle East, there will be “urine merchants” pushing this stuff at mosques and people there will actually believe it is real. Destined to become the Islamic world’s “Snake Oil”.

Seriously though, the terrorists/jihadists/hirabahists use “fatwa shopping” as a way to “justify” their garbage. Al Sadr in Iraq is not even a cleric yet he issues “fatwas” and his minions follow him. The same is true all over. One cleric says “terrorism is wrong” and another three say “terrorism is jihad, slay the apostate!” and the first cleric is killed (no matter what his station in Islam).

Really, the Imams need to drop the “Danish Cartoon” childishness. These cartoons are NOTHING compared to what the Christian religion goes through. But then, it is easy for the anti-Christians to make cartoons, religious jokes, and put a Cross in urine as Christians will not burn down city blocks in rage, Muslims WILL.

To paraphrase a line from Star Wars.

“Sir, nobody cares about upsetting a Christian.”

“That’s because Christians will not cut your head off. Islamists are known to do that.”

So did I.

You can’t make up something this funny. The “five times a day” thing just had me howling. Imagine a world where the multicultural feminists got what they wanted: the end of white male patriarchy, and the installation of the Islamic Dhimmitude, (thanks to the end of the white male patriarchy): In this world, if a self-actualizing feminist wanted to work, she’s be getting quite the initiation at any workplace where there’s more than one man.

“Hooters for all the guys! Five times a day!”

Can you imagine the look in the faces of all those bureaucrats in HR departments all over the country?

What should be required reading and understanding for all who are laughing, tho, is this quote from the guy who issued the fatwa:

“Atiya had said he had drawn on medieval scholarship to justify his position.”

Right there is a deadly serious piece of what everyone needs to know about Islam.

As silly as this seems, I gotta' give kudos to the guy who first asked the question.

I wonder what the Imams would say about pork if pigs regularly strapped bombs on themselves to blow up Israeli schoolchildren.

Just curious...would Prophetic Urine have to be advertised as used merchandise? Can we get a fatwa on this? Thanks.
