CLEVELAND (AP) -- Forty-three percent of Cleveland's public school seniors are flunking and won't get diplomas.

That means nearly 13-hundred of three-thousand seniors failed to pass one or more sections of the five-part state exam.

Students take the test in tenth grade and can retake it six times.

Statewide, the failure rate was seven percent, or nine-thousand students out of 130-thousand seniors across Ohio.

The Cleveland district was put under mayoral control after years of court supervision because of high student failure rates and mismanagement.

“95% of that 43% aren’t gonna graduate no matter how much money you pump in the schools. Why? BECAUSE THE STUDENTS DON’T GIVE A RATS A$$!

THAT is the problem with schools.”

Truer words were never spoken!!

"gore"

I'd go further. I'll bet that if you mentioned Gore and his stupid movie to many adult Americans who don't live in the hood you'd get a blank look too. A great percentage of Americans are stupendously ignorant about many things that should be common knowledge. Whether the knowledge (like Gore's movie) is worthless or not.

Might one ask what was the capacity in tons per year the year the river burned and 2006 capacity?

Shouldn’t that have been “American/Crapitalist pig”.

Paul Shanklin did write about ‘Crapital Classics’ if I remember correctly.

;-)

Now I agree with you there-they blindly vote Democratic and still wonder why things never change in the hood.

You nailed it!Yet they can tell you who the last five American Idol finalists are.
I had an interesting experience a few years ago subbing in a radical left wing alternative school.Posters all over the place of Che and Huey Newton and tons of propaganda disguised as”curriculum”
Yet I walked out of that school actually feeling better about this place than the other God forsaken high schools in my district. The students at least knew SOMETHING besides Jay-Z,Beyonce and the Raiders new running back.
If a kid quotes Chariman Mao,at least I can debate with him on the issues.Rather a kid do that than not know Mao Tse Tung from Yao Minh

Just spent a weekend with my sister and nephew in suburban Philly. He just graduated HS, is in the Young Marines (Joining ROTC) and has a library of Poli/Sci. and history books that is very impressive. The private school may have had something to do with this, but either way I am so damn impressed that at least one kid isn’t a liberal or politically apathetic.
