WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: 6 June 2007 — Ford Motor Company garners five top model segment awards—more than any other automobile corporation this year, according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) released today.

In the study, Ford Motor Company earns model segment awards for the Ford Mustang, Lincoln Mark LT, Lincoln MKZ, Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mercury Milan.

“The 2007 IQS results contain some encouraging and positive news for Ford Motor Company,” said Neal Oddes, director of product research and analysis at J.D. Power and Associates. “Fourteen Ford Motor Company models place in the top three of their respective segments—an achievement unmatched by any other corporation this year—which is a testament to the improvement in quality for Ford Motor Company vehicle models and plants. In addition, their Lincoln nameplate, which receives two segment awards, improves considerably to rank third in 2007, from 12th in 2006.”

The Ford Fusion, Ford Five Hundred, Mercury Montego, Volvo S80, Lincoln Navigator, Ford F-150, Ford E-series, Mercury Mountaineer, and Lincoln MKX all finish in the top 3 of their segments.

“Initial quality” isn’t what’s important. What really matters is how often, 3 years down the line, will the car be in the shop? Until Detroit gets this (and stops resting on its laurels), the Japanese and Koreans will continue to kick their butts.

Untill Ford replaces the goons in their service departments, they don’t need my business.

I like the new fusion. Never buy a brand new car, but I like it.. Will be replacing my car this year or next, if I can pick one up for what I’m willing to pay, will definately consider it.

It is certainly an indicator of future quality. Why does everyone always move the goal posts on Ford? This is a very good first step down the road to recovery at FoMoCo.

“Untill Ford replaces the goons in their service departments, they don’t need my business.”

How can they do that when dealerships are independently owned by other private entities. By law, Ford can not own the dealers that sell their products.

hahaha - Ford is on its last legs - I cant wait for its demise - its liberal/leftest policies will finally bring down this company. The Ford foundation is one of the biggest contributers to the pro illegal amnesty crowd - doesnt surprise anyone since Henry Ford was a racist.

Ford as a company doesn’t take customer complaints seriously...that is COMPANY wide.

Historically, there is a very strong correlation between finishes in the IQS and the VDS, which measures reliability 3 years down the line. The 2007 VDS has not been released yet, but here's a link to last year's. Mercury finished 2nd. Ford and Lincoln both above average.

Why does everyone always move the goal posts on Ford?

In my case, an Escort that died at under 70k miles. The dealership called my mom and said "Your car is fixed, but it don't run so good" - which meant they had to push it out of the garage bay.

My family bought Hondas and Toyotas ever since. The Hondas haven't been in the shop for anything other than oil changes. (The Toyota is too new to know.)

Why are the goalposts moving? Because Tokyo's quality has moved too.

More nonsense being spread with a knife of ignorance. Ford Motor and the Ford Foundation have not been tied since the early 70’s, if not longer. Blaming Ford Motor for the activities of the Foundation, is tantamount to blaming Hurricane Katrina on Karl Rove’s weather machine.

Not necessarily. My 1976 AMC Gremlin was just great for the first two years of ownership. It was the next two years that more than made up for that. Same thing with the 1982 Pontiac Phoenix I traded it in on.

Since then, I've been buying Asian-built cars without regrets.

Absolutely right, CSM.

Of course, for the vehicle I recently purchased (F-150), there never was a need for "recovery" at all -- since Ford has long set the highest standards for the industry!

The Ford Foundation began divesting in Ford in 1956. All Ford stock was sold by 1974.

“Because Tokyo’s quality has moved too.”

Yep, and without that competition Ford might not be working so hard. Competition is a great thing. This study shows that some of your fellow Americans are actually getting things right and that the product they are making are improving in great strides. It wouldn’t hurt to just say congrats. Instead, once again the standard is moved for Ford further down the road.

Add to that the fact that Tokyo’s quality and costs are beginning to take some hits, yet we never see the DBM cover those numbers.

Regardless, this is good news for Ford and let’s hope they continue to make good progress.

That makes no sense. Racists are hardly in the class of being pro illegal immigration

Thanks, I just heard that on the radio. But nothing has changed with the public, as indicated by the previous posts. We are trying to sell our condo in Dearborn, and head back down south as hubby retired. Things may be getting better at Ford, as he may be returning as a consultant. The son-in-law got promoted and moved to Kansas City. We are still concerned as retiree medical is to be changed.
