A LaGrange man used a 12-gauge shotgun Tuesday to detain two people who apparently tried to break into the home he is renting on the Bennoch Road.
Guy Shuman, 18, of LaGrange has been charged with burglary and criminal mischief, and charges also have been filed against a juvenile involved in the incident, Sgt. Bill Birch of the Penobscot County Sheriffs Department said Tuesday afternoon.
This is the second time in the past few weeks that Penobscot County sheriffs deputies have responded to a report of a burglary at the home, according to Birch. Police confirmed that the rented residence previously was broken into in late May.
No one was injured in Tuesdays incident, Birch said.
"[The resident] heard a noise out behind his house around 11:04 this morning when he noticed two people trying to break into his house," Birch said.
He confronted the two men and held them until law enforcement officials arrived.
Shuman was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail where he remained Tuesday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear on July 13 at Penobscot County Superior Court.
The juvenile was released into his parents custody.
Anyone with information regarding the incident or prior burglary attempts at the Bennoch Road residence is asked to call Deputy Dave Duplisea who is in charge of the investigation at 947-4585.

Officers - nice shotgun
Resident - thanks
ZZ Top alert...
Wow, they still let you do that in Maine? I’d have thought the deputies would slam the shotgun-wielding renter to the ground and let the burglars go with their apologies for their unhappy childhood or something. The article doesn’t name the victim, either, only the non-juvenile perp. Is there still hope for the Pine Tree state?
Thanks a lot. I’m going to have the ZZ Top tune stuck in my head ALL DAY now!
Maine is quite gun friendly - at least up state. Not so sure about the Portland area and points south. I once took a shotgun to the airport in my checked luggage. Knew it had to be declared, so I did. Didn’t know it had to be in a lockable piece of luggage. We stood around discussing my options (there weren’t many as I was running late) and the Bangor police officer at the airport offered to hold it until someone could come by to pick it up. No problems getting it back. Also made sure I had a lockable travel case for it the next time I flew out of the state.
Okay, somebody clue me in about the ZZ Top references.
You would know the song if you heard it.
The juvenile was released into his parents custody

“...they gotta lot a nice girls...HAH!”
Yeah, that tune’s a classic...
Try to find an MP3 of it. I can just about guarantee you you know the song. It is used in many commercials.
Might I also add that “La Grange” is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head very very easily.
I found it here:

If you ever want to hear, sample, or recommend a song, you can always go to Radioblogclub.com. It’s legal, and you can only listen to the songs, not download them.
I may have heard it in a commercial before.
Very cool site, Dave. Thanks for the heads up.
Penobscot!!!!And I thought it was just a fictional person or place in ‘MASH’.
