Mexican soldiers jailed in killings

MEXICO CITY – Nineteen Mexican soldiers have been sent to a military prison after troops allegedly killed two women and three children whose vehicle didn't stop at an army checkpoint, the Defense Ministry said yesterday.

Advertisement The family was traveling to a funeral in a van Friday when it was ordered to stop at a checkpoint near the village of La Joya in Sinaloa state, local media said. When the van failed to stop, soldiers reportedly opened fire. Police identified the dead as Alicia Esparza Parra, 17; Griselda Galaviz Barraza, 25; and Galaviz Barraza's children, Joniel, 7, Griselda, 4, and Juana, 2. Three other civilians in the van were wounded.

The Defense Ministry said three officers and 16 enlisted personnel were being held at a Mazatlan prison.

Sinaloa Gov. Jesús Aguilar lamented the shooting, but said the army will remain in the state “to safeguard the security of its citizens.”

President Felipe Calderón has sent more than 24,000 soldiers and federal police to battle heavily armed drug gangs blamed for more than 1,000 deaths this year.

Earlier this year, drug gunmen killed five soldiers in Calderón's home state of Michoacan. After the killings, soldiers were alleged to have held four teenage girls from a nearby village hostage as they beat and raped them, according to the government-run National Human Rights Commission.

On Sunday, soldiers killed a 27-year-old man who refused to stop at a military checkpoint near Nuevo Laredo, police said.

What?!?!

Where are the protests by groups like Amnesty International? Where are all of the leftists demanding that these Mexican soldiers face war crime trials in The Hague or by the United Nations?

It's amazing...whenever it is jihadi terrorists or banana republic soldiers committing atrocities the liberals are silent.

But if an American G.I. puts a pair of panties over the head of an arrested terrorist...watch out!

The hypocrisy stinks.

Because Amnesty International knows damn well that if they ever went to Mexico, there’s a good chance they’ll never return.

So, they sit in Washington and sponsor Sting concerts and bash the US, from the US, where it’s safe.

And the way they safeguard the citizens? By shooting them at checkpoints.

These guys must have made a mistake and though they were still working their night jobs as hired thugs for the drug cartels.

Just think how these Mexican soldiers will behave under that proposed North America Union scheme.

Will they be manning checkpoints in San Diego and Los Angeles?

They were running a checkpoint. Those who man such checkpoints don't have x-ray vision. Only abject fools run military roadblocks.
