The Presidency: Burdened by a Democratic Congress that can't see beyond the next election, at least the U.S. is blessed with a president with the ability to see a better future and the courage to take risks to achieve it.
His father didn't have the vision thing, but fortunately it's one trait that didn't skip the son's generation.
Bush the younger sees a world where democracy is the wave of the future, and an ownership society where people aren't at the mercy of politicians bribing them with their own money.

I recall just after the last election Bush saying something akin to, "Now I will have a Congress I can work with on Immigration Reform!" or words to that effect.

I wish it was and wish the general election was in November. As a long time Bush supporter, I am more than ready for his Administration to be over. I usually don’t comment but I wouldn’t give you two cents for this Administration right now except for Dick Cheney.
Don’t want to see a Bush or any of his people near the WH in the near future and unless I change my attitude, I don’t want a Bush ever in the WH or in an Administration ever again. I have had more than enough.

It appears that having problems with “the vision thing” runs in the family.
Let's not forget where we were and how he lead us out of it.
Democracy is not the wave of the future. We had democracy in Gaza strip and Venezeula, and they ended up voting in dictatorships. Reason is there is a huge poor/ignorant voting bloc in the voting population that can easily be manipulated by radicals. The only wave that is universal is the desire to be rich and powerful. Go to any country in the world and ask (developed and undeveloped). Everyone wants to get rich and powerful, but you get mixed concepts on what is freedom and democracy. Any nation that has a huge rural/urban poor are not ready for democracy. Sooner or later the poor majority will turn on the rich/middle class minority.

Well, he didn’t actually fix social security, he only tried to.
And if he railroads his illegal immigrant welcome mat through, he will kill the social security system about ten years earlier than expected.
As for the rest of it, this is a singularly poor time to praise Bush for the “vision thing.” I usually like IBD editorials, but they chose the wrong moment for this one.
Wait until Hillary is elected and then we’ll wish we had that terrible George Bush as president.

Well I honestly hope the next President is a Republican and I also hope that Republican is willing to listen to the citizens who got him elected more then GW has !!!
Yes, it is 'illegal immigration, or nothing' to the folks at the IBD, as it provides a rosy underclass for business exploitation, which is really all they're concerned with. (If they were truly concerned with social security, they would also be concerned with the social welfare costs of the immigration bill they support.)
But the 'tunnel vision' applies to their careful selection of the range of issues they put forth in this article...they may as well praise the 'vision' of Ted Kennedy with No Child Left Behind and the immigration bill, and, as for Social Security Reform they spend half the column praising, what has actually come to pass? Do you think that the President will get any such thing now, so late in his term, with so much of his political capital evaporated? Or are 'good intentions' enough for just not the Left any more?
And the second part in this series is about Homeland Security-- if you can separate that from illegal immigration, be my guest.
If we're going to laud him for his 'vision,' let's not squint to pretend that it's only limited to the things we're boosters for.

The Borders issues are important to me, but so are a wide range of issues. Only Bush and his associates have persistently stood up against the pervasive Hatred and Despite of terrorism, in all its forms, whether the effort was popular or not. Whether it was going well, or encountering ill.
In addition, though our friends to the south are working here in droves, they are generally more American than many immigrants. My only concern there is that we know who is here, why, and where to find them.
Bush's persistent Vision will be hailed in the future as prescient.

I just glanced through some back issues of IBD. It has published editorials disparaging the immigration bill by Charles Krauthammer, Victor Davis Hanson, and Thomas Sowell. That was after maybe ten or fifteen minutes of work.

Those are not "editorials" - they are opinion articles by guest authors. Those articles do not represent the official voice and positions of IBD - only "editorials" do that.

I find it extremely interesting that you are angered by Bush yet would support the nomination of a candidate (Giuliani) who is even further left. I am curious how you reconcile this.
I long for the day when G.W.Bush will be retired from the Presidency and away from the helm of this ship of state.

I never expect to question Bush's sanity. But the bill has lead some to wonder is Bush having a breakdown, using drugs, just plain evil, full of hate for this country, blackmailed/bribed, or in a frenzy to push the agenda of a foreign country.
I even feel a lot more toward the Clintons and it doesn’t bother me to say that even a little.
LOL, don’t forget his secret Mexican wife and secret Mexican children.
