McCain urges Congress to approve immigration overhaul

Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Tuesday urged Congress to adopt a sweeping overhaul of the nation's immigration laws and challenged critics to offer a better alternative.

The Arizona senator criticized his leading rivals, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, when a reporter asked about their opposition to a Senate compromise brokered earlier this month.

"Anyone who says we shouldn't pass this legislation, I would ask for their proposal," McCain said. "I have not heard their recommendation."

McCain said the U.S. cannot afford to continue allowing an estimated 12 million people to live in the country illegally. The Senate plan would establish a path to citizenship.

McCain repeated his plea for immigration reform minutes later before hundreds of technology executives at a conference sponsored by The Wall Street Journal. He also defended President Bush's decision to invade Iraq, while harshly criticizing how the war was handled under former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

McCain praised current military leaders.

"Now we've got a new general, we've got a new strategy," he said. "It is working."

Hang it up, McCain. It's a tired act. Enforce the laws on the books, deport illegals and build a damn fence/wall/whatever and quit this insanity.

Between the RMSP, New Majority and idiots at large masquerading as republicans, enough of this charade and nothing short of a sell-out of the Republic.

umgud’s plan

1. Secure the border
2. Real interior enforcement
3. Employee verification, match SS#’s, etc. (no national ID)
4. Employer sanctions
5. Border crossers, visa overstays banned from reentry, felony 2cnd strike
6. ID required for voting
7. No education, non-emergency medical or public assistance to illegals
8. No more anchor babies
9. Expand citizenship based on immigrant skill/education (end chain migration)
10. Provide guest worker program with application from home countries

Amen! This reminds me a lot of the good 'ol UNODIR stunt Dick Marcinko would pull on his superiors. It goes something like this... "Unless otherwise directed, I'm going to go and do XY and Z" where XY and Z are clearly things his superiors don't want him to do. Then he'd turn off his comm gear, go dark and go off and do nasty things.

McCain, if you pull your head out of your arse, you'll hear plenty of "recommendations" about this. And here's another one: Retire! Please. Thank you for your service to this country but there's a pasture with your name on it.

McCain you're either a liar or haven't paid attention to the subject. The House passed their recomendation last year. You and the rest of the pro-criminal axis killed it.

Right. Enforce existing laws, get the border fence built and establish economic disincentives for illegals to remain in the United States. That's the alternative we're offering. Now sit down, shut up and listen you arrogant twit Johnny!

McCain will be out of the race by Sept.

McCain is making headway in that direction. Since the Amnesty bill was introduced on May 17, McCain's probability of winning the nomination listed at Intrade slid from 28% to 17.5%.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Tuesday urged Congress to adopt a sweeping overhaul of the nation's immigration laws and challenged critics to offer a better alternative.

So his argument is basically this; driving a Yugo is better than walking.

And to that I say, why not create a better car?

while harshly criticizing how the war was handled under former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

What part of the three weeks did he have an issue with? Oh, you mean this lingering nation building business. 'cause the war was over when there wasn't an Iraqi government left.

As for the topic at hand? It's not a sweeping overhaul, unless you're talking about sweeping under the rug the illegal alien problem. Biggest pile of dug legisl.. Oh, right, McCain's involved, of course it'll be junk.

As for your campaign? Dude, really, there are much better liberals in the race who might even have a backbone.

It amazes me to hear McCain continue to give us this nonsense about anyone opposing his plan speaking up and providing an alternative. He has specifically singled out Romney over this, and Romney is freaking running an advertisement in the early primary states exactly stating his plans regarding immigration! It’s one of the two biggest planks in in his platform, for crying out loud!

He’s not paid the least bit of attention to Romney, just like he hasn’t paid the least bit of attention to the American people. It would seem he’s about as responsive to the people as W has been.

I just have an image of McCain sticking his fingers in his ears, making a demented face, and chanting, “Nyah Nyah Nyah Nyah!!!!,” at the top of his lungs.

He’s done. Stick a fork in him.

Send Romney up in the polls and make room for Fred.

Hey, Arizona? Isn’t there someone else like Kyl in your state who can beat this man who evidently has lost his hearing and reading capabilities? But, like many it appears in Congress, unless you shout as a group, we who are hard working honest taxpaying citizens are just background noise that sounds like blablablablablaaa.

McCain, Bush, and other sellouts ... their amnesty pushthrough, creation of new entitlements (Medicare Rx), campaigin finace reform, runaway spending ... has basically sunked the republicans in 2008.

Barring a major blunder by the democrats, the republicans are going to get crushed in the 2008. The “base” is not going to be out in numbers working on the campaigns (as they did in 2004 ... me included). The blue hairs and RINOs aren’t the backbone of the republican campaigns.
