Instead of the WH being touted as the admin which liberated 50 million people .. it will be touted as the admin which KILLED THE GOP. Which would you rather have as your legacy? I'm of the opinion as of late; that they don't really care. Hell, they might even be going for the "legacy" of liberating 50 Mil, AND destroying the GOP.
Can't have any uppity American peasants questioning the will of the elites, now can we.

It’s about time the GOP grew a set to fight with. All the time they were the majority, they bent over backwards to make it easier for the DemocRATS to get their way in almost all subjects.

Those in Congress who may disagree with the president on this issue certainly cant disregard his credibility on it. President Bush has been consistent on the need for comprehensive immigration reform, and hes been consistently right. Bush has NO credibility left. I hope the good folks in AZ fire that Flake. He's as bad for America as elPresidente Boosh is.

The President said today he wants a chance to fix the border problems in a way that treats people with "decency and respect".
When is the President and the Senate going to treat the citizens they represent with decency and respect? Telling us we're a bunch of idiots for not winking and nodding at their plan to grant amnesty to 12-20 million illegal criminals doesn't seem too damned respectful from where I'm sitting.

His approval rating is at 30% now. I guess he is shooting for zero. That’s bad in time of war.

“Can you illuminate us as to WHY he is doing this?”
Well .. it’s partly a guess .. but all those years Bush lived in Texas, he surely had to deal with the struggles of the Mexicans he saw in Texas. They were poor, uneducated, but they were hard workers, and probably honorable people. [I agree with that thought because I have 3 part-Hispanic grandchildren - and their mother’s family is legal, and hardworking.]
I believe Bush has great empathy for the Mexican people and it has blinded him to the reality of the dangers of our open borders.
I was hoping the revelation regarding the 3 illegals in the Ft. Dix terror plot would jar the WH back to reality. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
I’m disappointed the President is not listening to those who elected him.
And .. I’m also hoping this “blue-slip” plan is for real and that some in the House have the courage to pull it off. They are correct - the Constitution does not allow for the senate to levie fines, fees or taxes. Therefore, the initiating bill HAS TO COME FROM THE HOUSE.
Nothing should be done UNTIL THE BORDER FENCE IS COMPLETE. It’s the only way to stop the revolving door.

Its going to die in the House at the hand of an unlikely coalition of black urban liberals, conservative secure border advocates, and Blue Dog Democrats elected from culturally conservative GOP districts. They're a getting a lot of heat from their constituents about the Senate sell-out of our country. We can't afford it.

Bill Clintons legacy is his speech where he wagged his finger at us and said I did not have sex with that woman. Or even better, "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is."
Which brings us right to Dubya:

Meanwhile, Flake praised Bush for weighing in during recess, saying, Those in Congress who may disagree with the president on this issue certainly cant disregard his credibility on it. President Bush has been consistent on the need for comprehensive immigration reform, and hes been consistently right. "Consistently right"? Right for whom? When I called my senators I tell them that we not only have a broken immigration system we have a broken government. When pro illegal groups, like La Raza, receive my tax dollars and use that money to push the Latino take over of my country, the system is broken.

One of the things talk radio has been screaming about is that the back taxes provision was removed from the bill.
Happily, that amendment in now in the bill:
McCain SA 1190 (for himself and Sens. Graham, Burr, and Specter): Requires illegal aliens to pay back taxes upon the granting of probationary Z status (i.e., amnesty).
Adopted by Voice Vote
This is from the Numbers USA web page that is tracking the bill and all its changes. It is updated as events develop, and it also lists some currently pending actions on this crappy, crappy bill.
Now if they go out of their way to take this amendment back out, just so GOP House members can't Blue Slip it, then we will know that their treason knows no bounds.
BTW there is also included this amendment which raises fees for new H1B visas from $1500 to $10,000. I don't know if that counts as revenue raising (sounds like it, doesn't it?), but if so this will make the bill Blue Slippable as well.
Sanders SA 1223: Raises the fees employers who wish to import H-1B high-skill nonimmigrant workers from $1,500 to $10,000, with the funds going to scholarships for American high tech students.
Adopted 59-35
