The first Frelinghuysen to be involved in politics was Frederick. He was very active in Revolutionary politics and was a member of NJ's constitutional convention and a U.S. Senator, but didn't sign the Declaration or the Constitution.

Still a very active and influential man during Revolutionary times. The Wikipedia article lists his various political descendants (there are a bunch).

(Wikipedia seems to be perfectly all right for this sort of non-controversial stuff.)

Earlier, the pickpocket had hit a Dem congressman, who cried like a little girl and wet himself.

Amazed the American media didn’t portray him as a racist for refusing to have his money stolen by a poor impoverished victim of Bush Administration policies.

Democrats will be sure to get the 18 year old treatment and a government subsidy check for the rest of his life.

There is also a town named after his family in Sussex County, NJ. That part of NJ is very red — and is always punished by Trenton for not having the correct mindset for citizens of the Peoples Republic of New Jersey.

Thanks for that bit of history, Publius.

Frelinghuysen represents a district in New Jersey that has been one of the most staunchly Republican districts in the country's history.

It's also the closest thing we've had to a "royal family" here. I may be wrong about this, but I believe there has been a member of the Frelinghuysen family in Congress during almost every session of the House of Representatives since the U.S. Constitution was ratified.

And before the Frelinghuysens were Republicans, they were Whigs. And they may have been National Republicans and Federalists before that.

Congressmen are priviledged from arrest too, so no downside.

Right. Even if one of their staff assistants is caught bringing their weapon into a House office building.

Gosh with a name like that he should be able to run fast!
Even try to get that name on a bumper sticker or yard sign.

Seems to be a strong family resemblance over the years, too.
