Poll: Public Wants Illegals to Go Home
Eagle Forum ^ | May 22 | Staff

WASHINGTON - New polling shows a strong preference for enforcing U.S. Immigration laws that cause illegal aliens to go home. Advocacy groups and even some media outlets have released surveys showing support for legalizing illegals. However, those polls often gave voters a very limited choice between large-scale deportations or "earned legalization," or simply asked about conditional legalization without any alternative. When given the across-the-board enforcement option, with the goal of causing illegals to go home, the public strongly favors the enforcement approach over legalization with conditions.

Contrary to the new Senate bill, most Americans want less and not more immigration. When told the number of immigrants here and the number coming, 70 percent of voters said the level is too high, 19 percent said it is about right, and 5 percent said too low.

75% of Republicans said immigration is too high, 5% said too low.

69% of Democrats said immigration is too high, 6% said too low.

71% of self described moderates said immigration is too high, 4% said too low. Public prefers that illegals go home, rather than be legalized. 58 percent of voters said they wanted illegals to go home, compared to 30 percent who favored legalization. The public still overwhelmingly supported enforcement over legalization even when many conditions are imposed on illegals like paying a fine, learning English and undergoing a background check.

Americans support enforcement to make illegals go home. When presented by itself, 79 percent of the public said they supported reducing the illegal immigrant population by increasing border enforcement, penalizing employers, and increasing cooperation with local law enforcement, while 15 percent were opposed. No other proposal had near this level of support.

"Many polls give only the false choice of legalization or mass deportations. Some even give legalization as an option in isolation without other alternatives. But when given across-the-board enforcement that causes illegals to go home as an option, the public overwhelmingly supports it rather than legalization with conditions," said Jessica Echard, Executive Director of Eagle Forum. "This poll shows why Senators who support the Kennedy-Kyl amnesty are facing such a firestorm of opposition from constituents."

This National Survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC on May 15, 2007. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

Pulse Opinion Research, LLC is an independent public opinion research firm using automated polling methodology and procedures licensed from Rasmussen Reports, LLC.

In other polling news Dems will love:

Even while underrepresenting Republicans, the [CBS/NYT] poll shows one interesting result that neither news service headlines. Only 13% of Americans believe that the war should be defunded. That comes in question 94 of the survey. 69% want the war funded with some form of benchmarks, and 15% want it funded with no strings attached at all.

“If this bills apsses I will hold the republican Party responsable for it and will never vote or donate to the party again.”

If this bill passes, it will be mainly due to the Democratic Congress, as last year it was the GOP House that stopped it from happening.

So the destruction of the GOP in multiple ways as a result of this very bad bill is icing on the cake for the Democrats.

In the absence of enforcement,we can get the word out in the meantime that there is money to be made in filing RICO lawsuits against employers who hire illegal aliens.

Employers would have no trouble shutting down the border if they could get sued by someone under the RICO statutes for hiring these people in the first place. The next time an illegal alien kills someone in a drunk driving accident or somesuch thing, I’m going to point out that the victim’s family might be able to seek compensation from the employer under these statutes in the hopes that it would catch on. If this did catch on, would see such a swift backlash against illegal immigration that no employer would go near these people and they’ll all simply want to go back home.

I disagree with you. I think it is time that these parties, Democrats and Republicans, start earning our votes rather than just taking them for granted. I had always hope the the Republican Party would become more conservative, but that hasn’t happened, and with this Bill and their lurch to the left, I can’t, in good conscience, support them anymore. They have called for their own destruction by ignoring and abusing their base.

Darn, I forgot to plug my favorite Presidential candidate, Duncan Hunter who is the only one who gets it on this issue. This thread in particular is strong evidence of what I’ve been saying all along, that Hunter has good crossover appeal with voters.

Either show them the door or enforce the original intent of the Constitution.

AMENDMENT XIII
Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT AS A PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Convict them of the crime of trespass and enslave them, call it...

“Other than fruit growers and construction company owners, why would anyone want MORE ILLEGAL immigration”

The politicians want it because, knowing how p1ssed and frustrated the American people are getting with them, they need a bunch of new, naive, brain-washed voters who politicans assume will be grateful to them.

How dumb are GOPers for thinking they can outpander, promise etc. the dims who will then “acquire” all of these new voters?

There are a few of those busses parked in a field along I-10 between Houston and Lake Charles. I would rather pay to have them put back in service. ICE could cordon of areas in cities where 100s illegals gather to get work each morning, drive these busses up ... load’em up and head for the border. See it is easy. Just a few at a time ... one by one and eventually they are deported.

I have been a very loyal supporter of Bush, and still think very highly of him in most contexts, but this is a watershed issue and I absolutely disagree with him. If we want to help the people of Mexico, and increase the stability and strength of North America, then we should be trying to export those things about America that are great, not losing our way by assimilating people at a rate that doesn’t support assimilation and that allows rapid shifts in demographics. This is a disastrous bill.

It’s not what the public wants, it’s what big agribusiness and other low skill job providers want.
Screw the general public.

Funny thing is that it’s the blacks and entry level job seekers who lose out as a result of all these illegals. I don’t see Jackson or Sharpton leading much of a clamor against this type of thing.
