[FL] Intruder shot in the arm after breaking into home (Memorial - RIP GrandEagle)
Bradenton Herald ^ | May 21, 2007 | Staff

One of three men who forced their way into a home early this morning was shot in the arm during a struggle with an armed man inside the house, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

About 2:30 a.m., the three men went to a residence in the 8000 block of 43rd Avenue West, where a former girlfriend of one of the men and her boyfriend were staying.

The woman spoke with the men at the front door and told them to wait while she put on some clothes. The men entered the home and began yelling and banging on the bedroom door.

The woman's boyfriend opened the bedroomdoor and pointed a gun at the intruders, telling them leave, according to the sheriff's office.

Two of the men jumped the armed man, and during the struggle, the gun fired and one of the intruders was shot in the arm.

The intruders fled and drove to Manatee Memorial Hospital, where the injured man was treated.

The other two men, Chase Carter and Michael McKenzie, were arrested on charges of burglary with battery, according to the sheriff's office.

One of our members and armed citizen list group has passed away. (See this comment.) GrandEagle sent me a message a couple of weeks ago; it is surreal to learn that he has passed on into the arms of the Savior. In addition to getting back on track with armed citizen stories, I wanted to dedicate this armed citizen thread to our good friend GrandEagle.

GrandEagle, you're in a better place than any of us, and should be envied as much as mourned. We thank you for your contributions here at Free Republic and we thank the Lord you accepted His saving grace. We'll see you on down the trail, my friend.

In memory of GrandEagle

Mansions of the Lord

To fallen soldiers let us sing
where no rockets fly nor bullets wing
Our broken brothers let us bring
to the mansions of the Lord

No more bleeding no more fight
No prayers pleading through the night
just divine embrace, eternal light
in the mansions of the Lord

Where no mothers cry and no children weep
We will stand and guard tho the angels sleep
All through the ages safely keep the mansions of the Lord.

Threads should be back on track, folks. I've been on a little vacation to Disney World for the past couple of weeks, but I'm back in action now. Of course, if you had a hankering for these stories, don't forget that you can always visit the gunblog for more.

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.

Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
May the soldier or sailor,
God keep.
On the land or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
Need thee so?
All is well. Speedeth all
To their rest.

Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well; Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days,
‘Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
‘Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
God is nigh.

Dave,

Had to go back through my Ping List to find a post by GrandEagle; I didn't know him but wish I had. I'm in complete agreement with the things he wrote (and 'stood for') and it seems like he was someone I could have called 'friend'.

Also, thanks for "Mansions of the Lord" - I think it was a fitting Memorial for an American, a Warrior, and certainly for a Christian.

Thanks,

I first heard that song when watching Reagan’s funeral. It was so tragic, so moving, so beautiful. It moved me deeply; the music was perfect for mourning the fallen.

I couldn’t find its origin at the time. I managed to find it on the internet later. For fallen FRiends, and fallen heroes (GrandEagle was in the military) it is justly fitting.
