The son being a Doctor and a Lawyer rings alarm bells to me.

Mr. Applebaum's son, Michael, is a medical doctor and an attorney. While he was waiting for Dr. Ibrahim to see his father, he called Dr. Ibrahim and alerted him to the growingly severe condition his father was in and that his father was suffering from an acute abdomen. Dr. Ibrahim claimed he examined Mr. Applebaum. But that was a lie. He'd never seen him.

The son was told his father had been examined. Maybe he thought his father was receiving treatment when in reality he wasn't.

Dr. Ahmed Rashed, a Muslim Arab resident, severed and stole the hand of a cadaver as a gift for a stripper. Such little respect for life

Whose life was disrespected? The cadaver's?

Last doctor/lawyer I heard of was Michael Newdow. Ugh.

Hmmmm. I’d like a little direct evidence. I think people of all religions are ignored to death in hospital ER’s all the time.

Thank you. I agree.

I get a little tired of the hysteria without evidence generated by some of these threads.

I personally know of a case where a Jewish doctor allowed a Puerto Rican patient to die. Was it racism? No.

Never assign a malevolent motive to something that is probably just incompetence.

He was stricken with an acute (or distended) abdomen--a swelling of the stomach that is easily diagnosed and treated

Any MDs out there who can tell us what this is? Ruptured bowel? Infection? Reaction to medications?

My abdomen is "distended" every Thanksgiving Day but I never considered it life threatening.

I know Debbie; she is a nice girl, but this story is really over the top.

FReepMail to be added or removed from this pro-Israel/Judaic/Russian Jewry ping list.

Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.

"...never treated by anyone at the hospital. For 12 hours, Joe Applebaum was left alone...

I am not buying into this. This is CLEARLY a nursing issue. Any patient who was not seen by anyone at the hospital.. died as a result of nursing neglect.

When I was in medical school on one of my internal medicine rotations, my medical team got a call from one of the nurses in the fancy, high-priced wing of the medical center to tell us that our patient, Mrs. Gonzalez, had not been seen by any doctor on our team for the entire week she had been there?

Who?!?!?

We had never heard of Mrs. Gonzalez.

It turned out that Mrs. Gonzalez was a rich, foreign patient that had made arrangements to be worked up at the fancy wing of the University medical center and had flown to the U.S. for that purpose. She was tucked in to her fancy room, served three fancy meals per day and nursing never notified us that she was supposed to be on our service.

For that first week, Mrs. Gonzalez patiently waited, without complaining, for her American doctors to show up.

We, oblivious to her existence, never did.

Based on what I saw, the place is staffed by equal-opportunity incompetents.

That could be, but wat Debbie lays out here is premeditated murder, a very different thing.

The above is a ridiculous vague clinical statement - what was the cause of his distended abdomen? Hemmorhage? Ascites? Liver Failure? Cancer? Constipation?

To make a leap like this "medical terrorism" is irresponsible.

One thing wrong with Debbie's article:

An "acute abdomen" is NOT easy to treat. By definition, it is a condition that requires EMERGENCY exploratory SURGERY to see what is causing the symptoms and to correct the situation if possible. The outcome depends on the underlying cause of the symptoms. Of course, the last thing you would want to do is leave the patient waiting in the ER without attention. He should have been whisked to the operating room for the surgeons to work on him.

In this case, we don't know from the info given what his chances of survival would have been, had he been treated properly. But we do know that they'd be better than they actually were when some folks apparently forgot about him in the ER.

But....but....but....This cannot be possible. President Bush said they are a “religion of peace.”

I simply do not believe this story, and I think that it is a bunch of bullshit.

I am no sympathizer of Muslims, but I have seen Doctors at work whom I presume to be Islamic.

I totally think that this story is garbage and full of disgraceful unverifiable accusations.

Are you happy with your Dr. from Pakistan? If so why change? These type of hysterical stories are a disservice to our country. We have many fabulous docs from the middle east. They got the hell out of those $hit hole countries and we have benefited greatly. Debbie is either a hysteric or worse.
