Let’s make one more “change.” I think it’s time to call it the Department of War (instead of Defense).

Wealthy people in New York, much like those represented by Chucky Schumer, prefer Canadian lawn boys.

Such bigotry ~ they can get Mexicans anywhere if they try.

Actually, it was called: “The War Department”.

Exactly. My way, we would be getting back with tradition anyway.

I like this idea and the last time we had a Dept of War, we actually used it!

Yeah. Chertoff was a federal judge before his appointment to the newly created, Cabinet level, DHS.

How do you define “disproportionate”? I am confused.

There’s no way in hell Schumer ever would have made a statement like this if New York was getting a disproportionate amount of Federal money from this department.

Aren't they still?

Charles Schumer you are excessively unstable. Why not make a gigantic sign stretching from the East Coast to the West Coast stating in bold lettering ‘We Surrender Jihad Maniacs!’.

New York officials have long demanded that the DHS spend a huge chunk of its budget on anti-terrorism efforts in New York. This is not the case, so these New York officials really don’t see the DHS as a necessary agency anymore.

I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. In any case, I believe the prevailing opinion of New York officials is that they aren’t getting “enough.”

While I think we’ve got to do something about the name, the formation of the DHS made a lot of sense on many levels. I don’t think it’s fair to call it a “new” agency, its really just a re-ordering of the bubbles on the org chart.

Having Customs, Border Patrol, Immigration and the Coast Guard all in the same department makes a good deal of sense. Having the USCG over in the Dept of Transportation *never* made any sense.

I wasn’t in favor of the creation of the TSA. It wasn’t airport security that failed on 9/11. The knives the terrorists carried were perfectly legal to take on an airplane at the time. More security would be gained by letting *everybody* on the plane carry a knife (or a bat!) than can be gained by making sure that a terrorist is the only one on a plane with a weapon.

Beyond that though, the re-org that created DHS was maybe among the more sensible things that government has done in a long while.

But we gotta do something about that dumb name.

Wasn’t it the dems who made all sorts of noise until the President did capitulate to the 911 Commission and form one large bureaucracy called HLS??

Often times the agencies still work against each other or keep critical information from each other.

I also work for CBP and the wall between CBP and ICE is just about the same as the wall that existed between INS and Customs. Nothing much has changed.

You are right that breaking it up will not magically fix it.
