BERKELEY Larry Flynt, the publisher of Hustler magazine, is opening a retail store in June not far from Lambert Field that will sell sex toys, lingerie and other adult-oriented products.
A vinyl fence in the rear of the property, to be called Hustler Hollywood, separates it from a Berkeley neighborhood. And Preston Park, a playground with children's climbing equipment and a slide, will sit below a Hustler Hollywood sign the store plans to hoist atop a 100-foot-tall pillar.
"I feel this will bring in the wrong type of people to our neighborhood," said Naomi Huston, 72, who has lived in the Berkeley neighborhood 30 years. "I also don't think this will be good for the resale of homes."
Company executives for Hustler Hollywood said they've met all local requirements to open the store in the 9800 block of Natural Bridge Road.
Berkeley city officials endorsed the plan last year, according to building commissioner Wade Ewing.
The store stands alone on the lot, just across the street from the Renaissance Hotel. Nearby is the entrance ramp to Interstate 70 and a stretch of fast-food restaurants.
Seventy percent of the store will be devoted to clothing, jewelry and lotions, and a 6-foot-tall barrier wall will separate that from the part of the store that sells X-rated DVDs, sex toys and other adult merchandise, said Chris Mael, vice president of retail stores for LFP Inc.
These retail stores are not the same as Larry Flynt's Hustler Club, such as the dance club in Washington Park.

If anything, this Hustler store might be bringing in a more conservative element into Berkeley when consdiering just how far left Berkeley is. The porno chain at a minimum does engage in capitialism, which would put it to the right of this bizarre city...
I think this is a different Berkeley. Highway 70 is nowhere near Berkeley, California.
Totally off topic, but this article mentions Lambert Field, the airport in St. Louis. In 2004 John Kerry was hassled because he called Lambeau Field in Green Bay “Lambert Field”. So there really is a Lambert Field. John Kerry just didn’t know the difference between St. Louis and Green Bay, or the difference between a football field and an airport.
Too bad that in the US purveyors of filth find plenty of business while churches here close daily for good.
The part of Berkeley that Airport rd goes through is already a pit, what difference will a sex shop make?
This is Berkeley, MO. Its right up against STL airport..
“A vinyl fence in the rear...” caught my eye. (Everything’s vinyl or rubber or latex nowadays!)
Only a 6 ft. wall? Geez, I can see right over that.
