President Bush, standing firmly against a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, said Tuesday that he will veto the latest war spending bill approved by Congress.
"I'm disappointed that the Democratic leadership has chosen this course," Bush said.
"They chose to make a political statement," he said. "That's their right but it is wrong for our troops and it's wrong for our country. To accept the bill proposed by the Democratic leadership would be to accept a policy that directly contradicts the judgment of our military commanders."

This is the presidant I voted for. VETO this surrender bill. Our troops deserve better than a congress that stabs them in the back.

The Copperheads mounted a forceful and sustained protest against the Lincoln administration's policies and conduct. The most popular of the Copperheads was Democratic Congressman Clement L. Vallandigham, who in 1862 introduced a bill in Congress to imprison the President.
Instead, Vallandigham and a host of other Democrats, including judges, newspaper editors, politicians, and antiwar activists, were arrested and imprisoned without trial on the orders of Lincoln and Secretary of War Stanton, who had decided to take off their gloves in dealing with persons "guilty of any disloyal practice"

The copperheads were peace democrats who opposed Lincoln’s persecution of the war. They were arrested and imprisoned. Too bad we can’t do the same.

Too bad we cant do the same. Who says we can't? We probably won't, but the Constitution still defines giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States as treason. The penalty for which can be long fall with a short rope, or these days, the Big Sleep.

yep..... if our guys were really interested in playing hard ball.... they’d get Gonzales to open an investigation into the comments made by Reid, to determine if they were treasonous. They’d be investigating that instead of playing defense.

How long is it going to take for this bill to get to his desk so he can VETO it? The sooner congress starts working on another bill (one that works), the better for our troops. It really should have been on his desk before they went off on their last break.

MSNBC had Chris Matthews on right after 43's comments. The anchor and Matthews made it clear that they both thought the 'Rats were speaking for the American people, who've made it clear we don't support the war. And that 43 was going to have to compromise.
Question for the folks at MSNBC: What's the compromise between victory and defeat? Just curious.

The Copperheads mounted a forceful and sustained protest against the Lincoln administration...True. And this is why I believe we should begin calling all DIMocrats 'Copperheads'. Not just us here on FR but anyone representing conservative values; especially on-air personalities. Let's bring their past back; not just their anti-war past but their pro-slavery past.

Well, I was wondering since both the anchor and Matthews think that Congress has the support of the American people, and the American people want our troops home, why Congress doesn’t defund the war? Paging MSNBC....

Theyd be investigating that instead of playing defense. Even if we did not get a conviction for treason, it would offer us the opportunity to investigate all of Reid's corrupt dealings in Nevada using the JD. Maybe we could catch him using the usual attorney game plan, perjury. This nutcase is dumb enough to get caught.

As for reining in Reid, maybe a boycot of Sin City? I know I’m not setting foot in Nevada any time soon.

Given that even in the most lopsided elections there are always a substantial number of voters on the ‘losing’ side, it’s never appropriate to say that a particular view is the ‘view of the American People’. That term, and terms like ‘the Hispanic Community’, ‘the Gay community’, etc. are favorites of the left. It’s very consistent with their lack of respect for the individual..
To: West Coast Conservative
The latest poll shows 71% of voters rejecting the Dem position: 62% say a deadline is unacceptable and 9% say all troops should be removed immediately. The Dems have dropped a real pantload on this one.

I’ve got news for Chrissy, I don’t think that Congress’s approval ratings are much higher than Bush’s.

Might be a thought. The only way we will ever go on defense with the RATS is to take a big one and charge, indite, and put out to pasture or jail.

I'd love to see W. announce the formation of a special Justice Department task force that would only investigate crimes committed by members of Congress. Obviously, the size of said task force would necessarily be immense.
Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Anti-Copperhead BUMP!
GWB needs to do a little light reading on the history of the Civil War and how Abe Lincoln's administration dealt with the traitors in their midst.

MSNBC had Chris Matthews on right after 43's comments Yea, I was watching it on Fox. They cut early and weren't saying anything, so I switched to MSNBC.
They covered Bush walking to the Chopper, and then cut away.
The first thing that Matthews said was (paraphrazed) "The administration neglected to tell us before they got us into this war that it had been going on for 1600 years."
If you are a Copperhead (I like that term!) talking head I guess it's someone else's responsibility to learn you history...

The anchor and Matthews made it clear that they both thought the 'Rats were speaking for the American people As usual with the Dims, this whole thing is poll-driven. When the American people find out this bill undercuts the troops and delays if not denies their funding, I suspect those polls will change.
