Very good Doug. I especially like the picture of a bloated Alec with the baseball bat. Perfect picture for some thought bubbles.

The official version is that Baldwin had a scheduling conflict.

Dyes his hair black.

What else is surprising? He may move in the rarified world of Hollywood stars, but the hurt of his impending divorce from actress wife Kim Basinger clearly is of the down-to-earth, heart-wrenching variety. When he talks about it, the pain is almost palpable in his husky voice. “I hope people don’t think this is happening in my life casually,” he says. “It’s anything but casual. It’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to me..., I mean, I still love my wife more than anybody and I’m sad this has happened and I’m devastated this has happened. People come up and say ‘you’re young, maybe you’ll meet someone else’ and I think that’s just the most kind of unimaginable thing in the world to me.”

He compares Basinger filing for divorce in January, citing irreconcilable differences (just as he was about to begin his first directing job on The Devil and Daniel Webster), to “someone punching me in the stomach as hard as they could right before I had to go run the marathon. It’s been tough.” Which brings us to another revelation. Was directing something he’d always wanted to do, given how many stars move into that arena? “Oh no,” he says emphatically. “I had no desire to do that. But we couldn’t find a director we could afford. I was the person who understood the material the most who was going to cost us the least amount of money. It all just kind of happened.” Does he plan to repeat the experience now that he knows the ropes? “No, I think this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It’s been exhausting.”

Beyond his work, Baldwin is committed to his role as father to 5-year-old Ireland, who now resides in Los Angeles with Basinger. Baldwin, who lives in East Hampton, New York, calls his daughter every day and plans to buy a house on the West Coast to make visits easier.

Baldwin headed for George Washington University in Washington, DC , where he majored in political science

It wound up taking Baldwin 13 years to get his NYU degree,

He received his diploma in 1993—his final thesis was a 65-page paper on Al Pacino and method acting.

Basinger helped Baldwin decide to adopt her vegetarian lifestyle. “She pulled me through that doorway,’ he says. “Actually, she didn’t pull me, she invited me. I went through the process gradually—I used to come to the house with wrappers from the In N-Out Burger hidden under the seat of my car so I wouldn’t get busted.” (He went full-time vegetarian in 1991.)

The couple married on August 19, 1993, in a sunset ceremony on a Long Island beach; daughter Ireland was born October 23, 1995. While bringing newborn Ireland home from the hospital, Baldwin got into a scuffle with a photographer who was persistently trying to take pictures of his new baby. Prolonged litigation followed, and Baldwin ultimately was ordered to pay $4,500 in medical bills for the photographer’s broken nose.

Together, Baldwin and Basinger were one of Hollywood’s best-known activist couples, campaigning for political candidates (including a Democratic fundraiser at their home featuring then-President and Mrs. Clinton) and causes such as animal rights (they even rallied for Central Park carriage horses) and the environment. There’s no question, he says, that being so outspoken and political cost him both roles and fans. “There are people who would rather choke than go see my movies. They write me letters all the time.”

“The thing I love most about Ireland,” he says, “is that the only thing she’s spoiled for is attention. She’s not covetous of things. She’s not crazy about toys or clothes, she’s not gluttonous about eating or candy or sugar or things like that. She [just] wants all your attention. So if I’m sitting with her watching a movie and I sit and don’t move a muscle, literally, for 45 minutes, and I look at the clock and realize I have to make a phone call and I make a call while she’s lying there, she’ll turn to me and say”— and he starts laughing—”’you’re always on the phone.’”

What Imus Really Did Wrong

I’m sorry to hear that Don Imus is being drummed off the air. I think that what he said was dull and insensitive, but he should not have lost his job.

snip

Imus is an entertainer. He is not Tim Russert. In order to appeal to a crowd that is a notch or two above Hannity’s, however, he must combine a bit of Russert to his persona. He must walk a line between informed, reliable broadcaster and witty madman. Jon Stewart walks that line effectively, or one similar to it. Letterman walks it better than anyone. Intelligent, yet free. Sometimes even loopy, but always in a controlled way.

Imus said something that sounded racist without really being a racist. His only crime was that he didn’t walk that line very carefully. And that’s his job. Don’t fire Imus because he’s racially insensitive. His employers should have let his audience decide that. But, perhaps, fire him because his talent is diminishing. Imus was once one of the smartest guys in radio. Maybe he’s just another radio host now. Like when the Jayson Blair scandal made people realize that the New York Times had, basically, become just another newspaper. Imus isn’t a bad guy. He’s just not the old Imus anymore. He’s no longer that guy who always keeps that line in the corner of his eye.

I would not be surprised if his daughter did the leak.
I would be willing to say that she is tired of her “dad” ranting like this, and I am willing to put a 5 spot on the idea that it is far from the first time dear “dad” has been verbally abusive.

Ireland needs to be hidden from the both of them.

Okay, we know something that Alec apparently doesn’t know. His daughter is 11. She will be 12 in October. Oh, well, he has so many other things on his mind. Why should he be expected to remember how old his daughter is?

Alec Baldwin Denied Saying He’d Leave U.S.

Alec was busy denying everything. “My wife never heard of Focus magazine and never talked to them,” he told the New York Daily News on August 19. Then, on August 20: “Kim did indeed speak to a Focus magazine . . . but my wife and I never said unequivocally that we would leave the country if Bush won. Never.”

Even if he had made the statement, Baldwin said there was still no reason to leave.

“Bush wasn’t elected, he was selected - selected by five judges up in Washington who voted along party lines,” Baldwin said.

Actor Alec Baldwin told CNN’s Judy Woodruff that he never said he’d leave the country if George W. Bush became President, insisting that “I have never seen one person produce one audio clip or one video clip or one piece of evidence that I ever made that statement,”

In fact, back in September of 2000 FNC showed a clip of Baldwin parsing his words: “I think my exact comment was that if Bush won it would be a good time to leave the United States. I’m not necessarily going to leave the United States.”

As reported in the September 19, 2000

“Kim Basinger said her husband, actor and Democratic party activist Alec Baldwin, was serious when he said he would leave the United States if the Republican wins.

“‘Alec is the biggest moralist that I know,’ she was quoted as saying in Focus magazine, which hits newsstands Monday. ‘He stands completely behind what he says.’

“Asked if she’d move with him, Basinger said: ‘I can very well imagine that Alec makes good on his threat. And then I’d probably have to go too.’”

January 11, 1991

ALEC BALDWIN, the actor, recently got a zoning clearance to put a second story on his house in Amagansett, L.I. Mr. Baldwin bought the 135-year-old house, a former whaling-captain’s cottage, two years ago for $390,000.

On Jan. 4, MARIE-LOUISE MASTAI and BOLESLAW MASTAI, his next-door neighbors, filed suit in State Supreme Court in Suffolk County to overturn the zoning board’s ruling.

The dispute heated up last month after a letter from Mr. Baldwin appeared in The East Hampton Star. In it he accused Mr. Mastai of insisting that he “be content to sleep in a 10-by-12-foot bedroom for the rest of my life.”

“We have nothing against Mr. Baldwin as an actor,” said Mrs. Mastai, “but as a neighbor, he has not behaved well at all.” In his letter Mr. Baldwin called Mrs. Mastai’s opposition “reckless, righteous, eco-indignation.”

Alec Baldwin Speaks Out About Rant Against Daughter
Last Update: Apr 20, 2007 4:12 PM

Actor Alec Baldwin is breaking his silence about a leaked voicemail message he left for his 11-year-old daughter Ireland.

TMZ.com leaked the three-minute message on the internet Thursday, and in the taped rant, the actor calls Ireland “a rude, thoughtless little pig.”

He’s now speaking out about the rant heard around the world on his official website.

“Naturally, it is not best for a parent to lose their temper with their child,” he wrote.

“Although I have been told by numerous people not to worry too much, as all parents lose their patience with their kids, I am most saddened that this was released to the media because of what it does to a child.”

“I’m sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child. I have been driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years now. You have to go through this to understand. (Although I hope you never do.)”

“I am sorry for what happened. But I am equally sorry that a court order was violated, which had deliberately been put under seal in this case.”

“I’m sorry to anyone who’s taken offense from this episode.”

World Entertainment News Network contributed to this story.

The papers, filed by Baldwin's lawyer Vicki Greene, state: "Petitioner (Basinger) is the only parent with custody, possession and control of the minor child's telephone voicemail message that was dissemination to (TMZ.com founder) Harvey Levin and TMZ.com.

If this is an accurate quote, there's a paralegal somewhere who needs remedial english. And, it would have to be within the context of Basinger's original case, otherwise Baldwin would be the petitioner, not Basinger. V-e-r-y confusing.

If you’re in a divorce action, there’s generally an order prohibiting you from attempting to embarass the other party. Of course, you’re also not supposed to leave messages on their answering machine. Maybe by calling the daughter, Alex was trying to finesse that. The most likely outcome is that the judge is going to order both of them to behave themselves.

Even if he had made the statement, Baldwin said there was still no reason to leave. “Bush wasn’t elected, he was selected -

So, if Bush was running the country, he wasn't going to leave, but if the American electorate voted in a way he didn't agree with, he was going to leave.... That's even loonier!
