Canadian Coastguard icebreakers are smashing through a massive expanse of pack ice to try to free about 100 sealing vessels stuck off Newfoundland's northeast coast. According to officials about 15 vessels are in danger of having ice pierce their hulls.
Seal ship stranded

PETA is rooting for the ice.
Just wait it out, global warming will save ‘em.
No...we need clubs...to the lumber yard!
If an SOS is sent, would Greenpeace respond?........
So many questions come to mind...Did these boats any of them see the pack ice and try to avoid it? Um, it is kind of hard to miss.
Ping
With those eyes staring out at people from the hat? No thanks.
I thought all the polar ice was melting, so this isn’t happening (according to GlobalWarmingGroupThink).
I hope they save the ship and the cargo.
these seal hunts are regulated....there is good conservation used in the taking of the fur.
I hunt and skin and butcher all my own animals for the meat and sometimes have them tanned. In Alaska I bought a nice otter hat from native Innuit people....I wear a warm shearling jacket in the dead of winter along with my otter trooper cap.
We were given dominion over the beasts. We should not take a species to anywhere near extinction, but we should use the natural resources that are here for us to take......
I'd take one. The only question is whether to wear it with the eyes behind you, or to put the eyes facing forward.
Hold that thought through the election 2008.
So, then, you don’t have a clue as to how fur hats are made nor to the degradation of living tissue, post-mortem?
Or, are you just funnin’ me?

(stop me, this could go on for several more pages)
Could it be that those crafty Canadians launched a disinformation campaign to fool the greenies?
Best of luck to the brave Coasties as they attempt the rescue.
BINGO
You must not be watching Deadliest Catch. Pack ice can move in and form around your ship at the same time.
I wouldn't. But I might if I were going to a PETA convention. :)
Please send me a FReepmail to get on or off this Canada ping list.
Plus the seals, left without predators, voraciously overfeed on the cod fish that Canadian fisherman are currently not allowed to fish, as we’re trying to let stocks rebound. Culling seals is good conservation for these fisheries.
The greenies wont like it and just ask pombo how influential they have become
Seal hats and otter hats?
I thought that fur hats were Made in China from dogs.
Can’t say I mind that they are stuck.
No, no no. Dogs are the filler in the take-out I had last night.
Dogs ... the other white(?) meat.
If dogs aren’t white then what WAS in my chicken suey last week?
In addition to pack ice moving in that quickly, it can get beyond the ability of an icebreaker to deal with, as well: One of the 3 icebreakers sent to aid the sealers was actually trapped itself in this pack. I’m not sure if it’s free yet.
Your neighbor's missing cat.
How could this be possible — algore sez the ice pack has melted.
Its cool to see a “growler”, never mid a real iceberg, in the middle of August out on the bay!
PS the ice flows have the ability to move with the currents, and winds.
Think about that ice as an ice cube in your bathtub. Now i dare you not to put an ice cube in your tub. (:)) It does eventually melt, but it also will move(and fast) with the smallest of assistance (wind).
I think that seals make good coats too!
