Okay, the antigunners win. I give. Let's ban all the guns, okay?
So what is the result of this legislative action? Firearms are VERY widely available in America (one estimate in 2003 is 200,000,000). So now, in our thought experiment, let us simply declare guns illegal. We can estimate that a good 50% of them will be turned in. That leaves 100,000,000 guns still circulating -- with all the ammunition that they can eat.
(Chipper voice) Alrighty then! So now, all civilians who are law abiding will no longer carry firearms or be very reluctant to use them to defend theirselves at home (lest they be charged with crimes).
So where does that leave us?
Criminals, roaming the neighborhoods, breaking in with impunity, armed with these now-illegal 100,000,000 still-circulating guns -- raping, killing, and stealing with NOTHING to prevent them -- except a laughably tiny nationwide police force (as compared to the criminal element that will emerge).
(Frowns darkly) Hmmm. Maybe we shouldn't ban guns like the Enemedia and various politicians ask.
Hey Laz as was said in truth if guns are banned only criminals will have guns.
The Democrats in Congress could order all American troops to come home from Iraq so they can search every single home and building in America door-to-door to extract all the guns that people may have hidden in their homes or places of business.
And, in order to expedite the process, they could ask Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, China, Iran and other countries we have alienated through our arrogance to send large contingents of their soldiers to America to assist in tracking down all those weapons. This would be the kind of olive branch that would restore our damaged reputation in the global community, plus it would have practical benefits!

Wait a minute....I am sure that if guns were declared illegal, criminals would obey the law. After all if a criminal is going to murder someone, the last thing they want to do is break the law by using a gun. I happen to agree with the Dems on this one.....Lets have a little more faith in murderers and criminals.
Let's round up the entire civilian populace and put them into concentration camps, forcing them to live in barracks and perform slave labor. We'll still have a decent economy, the populace will be docile, and -- most importantly -- leaders will be IN CONTROL!

Oh wait... VA Tech banned guns last year. But if guns were banned how this guy appeared with them on campus?? It’s total mystery.
Nevertheless, let’s ban guns everywhere; it’s absolutely obvious that criminals will not be able to get them if they are not sale in Wal-Mart... Then we all will be safe.

Laz, you make perfect sense. But the gun banners don’t. They have actually argued to the effect that “Sure, there will be carnage for a while, but that is a necessary first step.” Then they will wax about how we need to be “bold” and “fearless” as we go forth into our new world order. A few will talk about facing our enemies with prayer and grace and smiles (hey, there was a FReeper who started a thread about that a few days ago, who really believed that was our “Christian” duty).
Keep the faith anyway, though.

Well they took all the guns away from the students and teachers on campus and turned it into a gun free zone. And thus PROVED... once again...
When you outlaw guns, only the outlaw has a gun!
How about we not only ban the guns, but also cut off everyones’ hands and replace them with prosthetic hooks, pokers, and clamps (depending on your particular function in society).
Then regardless of how many guns are left on the street, nobody will be able to load, aim, or fire them.
Everyone must report to turn in your firearms and undergo mandatory hand removal by 0900 tomorrow. Prison inmates will undergo mandatory hand removal starting immediately. Criminals at large are ordered to surrender all weapons and their hands ASAP.
Wait a minute. Let’s look seriously at what happened before jumping to conclusions.
We should ban English as a university major. After all, English majors rarely turn out well...

So just send the cops, national guard, and army in to confiscate them. What, that would lead to a bloodbath with tens if not hundreds of thousands of deaths? Well, it's for the children, and it will ensure the elites' power, so that's OK!
Actually, a more realistic (and frightening) scenario is the following: The media succeeds in marginalizing gun ownership and the 2nd Amendment (this is EXACTLY what they are trying to do now). After that, inherittance, purchase, and all other transfers of firearms are outlawed. No confiscation needed. Owning a firearm becomes socially unacceptable. Gun buyback programs are instigated to "help" people get rid of their socially unacceptable firearms (this is also actually occurring). After several years, gun ownership will be very low (they hope). Or maybe several decades. Then, the remaining guns can be confiscated by force in a blitz. No effective resistance.
At that point, the only people with firearms will be the servants of the government and thugs (think Brownshirts), both of whom are essential to imposing despots will on a subject population. At that point, our (socialist) masters will be able to do whatever they want to us serfs. THAT IS THE GOAL, plain and simple.
That’s what happened at Virginia Tech, and look at the results.
One well armed and trained adult could have ended this tragedy much sooner!

Respectfully, I think V-Tech is negligent in so that they barred the people (administrators and employees) on campus from exercising their civil rights and put them at risk. I hope someone sues the living s@#$ out of them for this offense!
A .22 caliber cannot penetrate a text book for sure and a 9mm is considered a bare minimum as a conceal carry firearm. (9mm is not that powerful of a weapon) As a matter of fact I highly doubt a 9mm would get through a one inch text book, lest a back pack filled with books. These kids had the tools to save their lives; they just did not know how to use them! This nut could have been easily disarmed had someone had the appropriate training.
To All: before any real discussion can take place one must acknowledge a few facts.
1. Evil does exist!
2. In an open society YOU must take responsibility for your own safety.Katrina and 911 has taught us the government is incapable of providing any amount of real personal protection.
3. The police are NOT legally bound to protect you. Go ahead and try to sue a police officer or municipality after you have been victimized. The speed at which that case will be thrown out of the judicial system will astonish you.
4. We live in an open society. This is going to become even more so if the ruling elite in this country have it their way by easing migration (their term) across our southern border. This brings me to my next point…
5. Has this country stemmed the flow of illegal drugs into this country? No, they have not. How many guns could enter this country through our porous southern border and find their way into criminal’s hands? Now, if we took away the right of law abiding citizens to arm themselves, what do you think we would then have?
Cute little ‘NO GUNS ALLOWED” stickers on doors will not stop evil!

When you have a private jet furnished by tax payers, and a limo and driver furnished by us, and secret service detail furnished by us like Princess Nancy, you don’t need to carry your own gun. She is totally out of touch with reality. As are most libs.

You still don’t get it, Laz... what we need are lockdowns. Any time there’s a shooting, apparently the right answer is the “lockdown”.
The whole town... the whole state. Contain the victims into more manageable groups. Easier to target —er, protect that way.
Look at Austin this morning for the “right” answer. Now somebody with a notepad and a pen can trap everybody in little rooms anytime they want!

That is an awesome picture. That could be the way it happens.
There is a local (Minneapolis) talk show host (Joe Soucheray) who talks about the only way this would work is if a giant super magnet swoops down from the sky and sucks up all the weapons on the planet. and I agree that is the only way it will work, except someone could be re-invent them someday.
