Pelosi survives 1st 100 days as speaker

By ERICA WERNER, Associated Press Writer 40 minutes ago

Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record) won her biggest victory in her first 100 days as speaker by making peace among her own House Democrats. Mollifying moderates and staving off liberal defections, she narrowly wrung passage of legislation setting a troop withdrawal deadline from Iraq.

The Iraq legislation was the truest testament to her leadership, analysts said. The nation's first female House speaker has also passed a raft of other bills, set herself up as a visible opponent to President Bush and taken steps to protect Democratic incumbents who could be vulnerable to Republican challengers next year.

Key tests lie ahead when House members return from their April recess in the coming week.

The Iraq troop withdrawal bill faces a veto threat from Bush. Pelosi critics point out that her legislative priorities, such as raising the minimum wage and expanding stem cell research, have not yet become law.

But even opponents concede that Pelosi's kept her agenda, and herself, firmly in the spotlight since her history-making swearing-in Jan. 4.

"I have a great serenity about it because I understand why people have to do what they have to do, both Democrats and Republicans," Pelosi told The Associated Press in an interview as she prepared to mark the 100-day milestone Saturday. "And the challenge is a positive challenge."

Democrats noted the 100-day mark in their weekly radio address Saturday. "Our work is not done," said Rep. Rahm Emanuel (news, bio, voting record), D-Ill.

Public approval of Pelosi has waned slightly since her initial honeymoon, according to an AP-Ipsos poll conducted April 2-4. Overall, 46 percent said they approved of how Pelosi was handling her job, compared with 51 percent in mid-January, while 44 percent disapproved,

It only took her 100 days to undermine the elected goverment chosen by the people by making under the table deals with all of our enemies, foreign and domestic.

Very impressive for a chick I previously thought was too stupid to properly chew a stick of gum.

Pelosi has NOT survived her first 100 days in office.

What she has done is shown the American people that she is a megalomaniac, treasonous, power hungry, liberal socialist dweeb, whose platform is nothing but the politics of personal destruction, fraught with an incapability to unify the nation.

Vote for that?

She is already history, a primal corn chip scream of the last vistages of liberalism/socialism, formerly represented by the Neville Chamberlain crowd of bankrupt liberal history.

He legacy? Repeatedly and simultaneously putting both of her feet in a mouth which is oversized, over reaching and hardly supported by any intellect which could possibly be decribed as anything but pre-pubescent.

Thats hardly survival.

The sooner she departs, the sooner America can forget its worst nightmare. Even Dems shudder at the sound of her voice.

Maybe we can run her thru the appropriate machinery and make ethanol out of her.

By her own standards, Nancy is a liar!

First Hundred Days of “Do Nothing” Democrat Regime in Washington, D.C. And Nothing Accomplished

Pelosi and the Democrat “Do Nothings” Spend, Tax, Travel and Investigate their Way into the Taxpayer’s Backpocket

“Results” of the first 100 legislative days of the much hyped new Democrat regime in Washington D.C. And here are the “results”:

10 Bills Passed Naming 10 Courthouses, Federal Buildings and Properties:

H.R. 49: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1300 North Frontage Road West in Vail, Colorado, as the "Gerald R. Ford, Jr. Post Office Building."

H.R. 335: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 152 North 5th Street in Laramie, Wyoming, as the "Gale W. McGee Post Office."

H.R. 433: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1700 Main Street in Little Rock, Arkansas, as the "Scipio A. Jones Post Office Building".

H.R. 514: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 16150 Aviation Loop Drive in Brooksville, Florida, as the "Sergeant Lea Robert Mills Brooksville Aviation Branch Post Office."

H.R. 521: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 2633 11th Street in Rock Island, Illinois, as the "Lane Evans Post Office Building."

H.R. 577: To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 3903 South Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas, as the "Sergeant Henry Ybarra III Post Office Building."

H.R. 544: To designate the United States courthouse at South Federal Place in Santa Fe, New Mexico, as the "Santiago E. Campos United States Courthouse."

H.R. 342: To designate the United States courthouse located at 555 Independence Street in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, as the "Rush Hudson Limbaugh, Sr. United States Courthouse."

S. 159: A bill to redesignate the White Rocks National Recreation Area in the State of Vermont as the "Robert T. Stafford White Rocks National Recreation Area."

H.R. 584: To designate the Federal building located at 400 Maryland Avenue Southwest in the District of Columbia as the "Lyndon Baines Johnson Department of Education Building."

“Pelosi’s agility at breaking her promises to the American people of “real progress” in the first hundred days of her regime is only surpassed by her inability to show up for work more than three days a week,” said Hans Klingler, Texas GOP Communications Director.

And what about those broken promises from Pelosi?

X Pelosi promised legislation, not investigation -- But they’re so intent on going after Republicans that they’re spending hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on outside investigators to make sure no score goes unsettled.

X Pelosi promised that Congress would be in Washington working every week from Monday until Friday, just like the American people do -- But three months later, the five-day work week has fallen completely by the wayside.

X Pelosi promised real results for the American people -- But 100 days later, the Democrat leadership has not managed to send a single one of Nancy Pelosi’s self-identified ‘legislative priorities’ to the President’s desk.

X Pelosi promised to be as strong as Republicans in the War on Terror -- But three months after she came to power, Nancy Pelosi is traveling to and “negotiating” with Syria an admitted state sponsor of terrorists. Now she wants to go to Iran?

X Pelosi promised an end to pork-barrel projects -- But three months later, they tacked $21 billion in earmarks, including spinach subsidies, support for peanut farmers, and $16 million for additional office space for the House of Representatives onto a bill that was supposed to provide emergency funding for our men and women in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Damascus Nancy will never be able to wash that scarf from her hair.

And neither will history.

how is it that she IS still speaker? She should have been stripped of her position as rules require for indicted members of leadership.

What "making peace with her own House Democrats"?!!!

This must explain the Dems' 65% Disapproval ratings in polls.

Keep it up, Nancy. You'll soon find Steny Hoyer's knife in your back and be looking at a Republican landslide in '08!
