...and she doesn't want her kids going near the gun-toting neighbor.

Is she vowing to stay away from Webb and the rest of the democrats that also carry guns, or is it really neighbors that she's afraid of...or republicans?

Johnson, who has posted a "Go Rudy Giuliani 2008" sign on a fence just 100 feet from the entrance to the Edwards' driveway, has criticized Edwards for the scale of their nearby home. The property and home, which includes an indoor basketball court, an indoor handball court and an indoor pool, is valued at $5.3 million.

The Edwardses are still putting the final touches on the property, which they purchased in 2003.

"I thought he was supposed to be for the poor people," Johnson said. "But does he ever socialize with any poor people? He doesn't speak to me."

This guy is my new hero.

Is this the two Americas Edwards talk of? Poor Republicans taxed into the poor house by limousine liberals so they can spend the money of entitlements that ensure a voting majority that enables them to stay wealthy and in power.

Living well is, in fact, pretty good revenge. Also good is making scum fearful and miserable.

The gave enough information to identify the guy specifically. Colloquium? Check. She called him “rabid.” Capable of defamatory meaning? Check. Miss Edwards seems like an otherwise decent and interesting person, but she wronged someone here, and it wouldn’t be unjust for her to get sued.

“when he dosen’t like somebody the first thing he does is pull a gun out.”

A. How does she know he didn’t “like” the people in question?

B. How does she know it was the first thing he did.

C. Maybe the trespassers were working for the Edwards.

D. Like it or not Mrs. slandering lawyer this man has a right to own a firearm & protect his property.

E. Do you really have cancer? After reading this article I’m starting to have my doubts.

F. Are you a rabid anti-gun limousine liberal?

If someone is trespassing, having the gun handy when you confront them is what we country folk call smart. Of course the Edwards’ favorite course of action is to sue you.

Sounds like they need to speed up construction on that little house they’re building. Doesn’t look like there will be any neighbors close enough to worry about. Otherwise they can just move. It’s not like they can’t afford it.

why mention the “gun toting” except as to create peril.

This is not reporting this is play writing. Who is the author who said if a gun is mentioned in a play it means the gun must be used later.

This is BS to set up an expectation of violence whre there is none.

Why not just call the neigbor “thought criminal double plus ungood.”

The media is incompetent.

I see he wants to sell his property. Sounds like a great place for a gun range or a used trailer lot! No! Wait! A Gay Bar would be fitting, & Mrs. Edwards could then rest easy about the safety of her kids.

His family has been there since before the depression and he’s putting his property up for sale because he doesn’t want to live by someone who’s always complaining about him? They move in 2003, he’s had the place since before the depression, they are running him off his own property? I wouldn’t leave, not for nothing.

Monty Johnson brought out a gun while chasing workers investigating a right of way off his property.

If they didn't come to the door and ask permission, they were trespassing. There are quite a few people around my place that don't understand the concept of private property either, until I explain it to them in terms they can comprehend. I don't get as many trespassers as I used to.

Edwards views Johnson as a "rabid, rabid Republican" who refuses to clean up his "slummy" property just to spite her family, whose lavish 28,000-square-foot estate is nearby on 102 wooded acres.

28,000 sq ft. Add to that the excessive hair spray use and just imagine his carbon footprint.....

The Edwardses are still putting the final touches on the(ir) property, which they purchased in 2003.

"I thought he was supposed to be for the poor people," Johnson said. "But does he ever socialize with any poor people? He doesn't speak to me."

Johnson said he has put his property on the market, in part blaming the high property taxes for his decision to leave. He also wants to move for another reason.

"I don't want to live somewhere where someone's always complaining abou

I smell a democrat rat. I betcha there is a LOT more to the story than what is written here.

First guess... the Edwards campaign is a fizzle and needs some "juice" to get it going.

Second guess... there is bs afoot in pushing the guy off his land, spreading propaganda to run the price down for lib friends perhaps?

Monty Johnson, owner of the garage site and one of Edwards’ closest neighbors, is no Edwards fan. Johnson has left standing an abandoned house facing the entrance to the Edwards property.

Elizabeth Edwards said they purchased 102 acres — valued for tax purposes at $1.1 million — in 2003 after spotting it while searching the Internet.

*****

She (Elizabeth Edwards) said that there is nothing “grandiose” about the house

The main living section of the house is 10,778 square feet and has a tax value of $3.1 million, according to tax records. It has five bedrooms, 6 1/2 baths and a library. A second wing of the house is connected by a heated enclosed walkway, valued at $192,664, that is lined with family and political photographs.

The second wing, called “The Barn” by the family, has 6,336 square feet and includes a lounge and offices that are 70 percent complete. It has a current tax value of $567,403. It also has a basketball court, which is 60 percent complete and valued at $300,960; a racquetball court, 70 percent complete and valued at $41,000; and a pool, according to tax records.

******

Elizabeth Edwards said the gym fulfilled her husband’s dream of having his own basketball court to use when he wished.

The racquetball court, Elizabeth Edwards said, was a sort of “valentine” from her husband to help with her lifelong battles to control her weight.

I live in a rural area like the one described that is beginning to develop. Farmland is switching to 2 to 4 acre plots with McMansions slapped on them. The farmers have an absolute right to break up their farms when they retire, I don’t argue that. But one of the consequences of rapid development is that it changes the nature of the local zoning & supervisory boards. Prodded by the new, wealthy residents they are suddenly gung-ho to tell you what you can and can’t do on your property. This can come as quite a shock to long-time residents who are used to a more laissez-faire local government.

I’d be willing to bet that something done by or at the behest of the Edwards’ has really got their neighbor ticked.

Oh, and I wouldn’t put it past Elizabeth’s ilk to make the whole d*mn story up for political effect.
