CAIRO, Egypt (AP) -- A top U.S. Democratic congressman met a leader of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's most powerful rival, the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, U.S. officials and the Islamist group said Saturday.
Visiting House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer met with the head of the Muslim Brotherhood's parliamentary bloc, Mohammed Saad el-Katatni, twice on Thursday -- once at the parliament building and then at the home of the U.S. ambassador to Egypt, said Brotherhood spokesman Hamdi Hassan.
U.S. Embassy spokesman John Berry would confirm only that Hoyer, who represents Maryland, met with el-Katatni at U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardone's home at a reception with other politicians and parliament members.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has refused in the past to meet with the Muslim Brotherhood, the country's largest opposition group.
But Berry said U.S. government policy does not bar meetings with Brotherhood members of parliament and Hoyer's talks with el-Katatni were not a change in U.S. policy toward the group.
"It's our diplomatic practice around the world to meet with parliamentarians, be they members of political parties or independents," Berry said.

So between Pelosi and Hoyer, the Democrats apparently read their “mandate” from the November elections as being they should give aid and comfort to terrorists and tyrannts. Are these Dems. really so full of themselves that they think Americans invested them with power, position and responsibility to use in kissing up to Middle Eastern terror merchants? If Americans allow these vile people to maintain Congressional control after the embarrassing show they’ve put on since January, then they deserve whatever ill comes upon them as a result.
Bump for truth!
The Democrats are desperately seeking somebody to surrender to.
Dem's run the real shadow government...and that shadow is cast by Hillary's big butt.
Oh, and why was Iran so incredibly important to the Iraq Study Group but so conveniently left off the itinerary for the Democrat Traitor Group? I'm sure they could have gotten along famously with Achmedinejad since they all are aligned in opposition to Bush and his war.
Does anyone know who Hoyers neighbors at his private residence are?/ You might laugh when you find out.
That was my thought too, this morning.
Is Congress on "Easter Break" or have they just decided to surrender to everyone!
These guys are going to talk all of us into a pair of shackles!
OK, sarge, I’ll bite, who are the Hoyer’s neighbors?
do tell............
Lets just say they arent natives of Southern Maryland.
That in this time in history the GOP base could not stay unified.....that we abandoned our soldiers to the ilk of the DEM leadership and the mocking (and gleeful reporting of defeat) by the MSM is terribly sad.
Sure the WH and RNC have been inept over the past 3 years regarding PR for either the WOT or the economy......but our base still knew we had soldiers in harms way...and what the ilk of the DEM leadership is...
wow that tells us alot...can you be more specific?
Perhaps the whole delegation should have stayed in Egypt for a couple of weeks, and we would no longer worry about having to put up with their attempts to completely traduce and betray our nations foreign policy, which even Clintonian elements within the CIA have attempted ( Plame/Wilson).
The president must respond to these repeated "coupe" attempts. He has the Logan Act and MUST use it immediately.
We are at a point when War can only be waged by democrats, who have ruined our nations initiatives in Vietnam, South America: Iran-Contra: ( result, massive illegal alien influx into the USA), and now in Iraq.
The Dems MUST stand down, or be taken into custody and tried.
It’s either a secret or the sarge wants a “pretty please.”
Amen to everything you said. The incredibly irresponsible and extreme actions of this Congress show the folly of those among the base, esp. those here on Free Republic who claimed “It doesn’t matter who controls Congress.” I think the way this Congress has acted to kiss the rings of our enemies and to implement a policy of surrender in Iraq PROVES that it does indeed matter who controls Congress and that it does matter that we vote.
Who were the other members of Hoyer's delegation?
From the article :
... Jon Alterman, a Mideast specialist at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, said Bush administration officials may have avoided meeting Muslim Brotherhood members because it could strain relations with the secular Egyptian government, one of the closest U.S. allies in the Arab world. From another article on CIA funding of leftist agitprop: A grant of $250,000 to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, known as CSIS, headed by former Clinton administration Deputy Defense Secretary John Hamre -------- "How the CIA Funds Anti-Bush Propaganda ," by Bill Gertz, Frontpagemag.com, September 14, 2004
"The difficulty when it gets to Egypt is that the Brotherhood is not a legal group within Egypt and the U.S. government is wary of violating laws in countries in which it operates," he told The Associated Press on Saturday.
"The larger constraint on our willingness to meet the Brotherhood is the Egyptian government's unease with our government's meeting with the Brotherhood."...
"There's been a growing sense in Washington over 20 years that Islamic politics are here to stay, and the U.S. interest in promoting democracy around the world means we should be engaging with a growing number of actors," Alterman said.
CSIS brings to mind Brzezinski, Scowcroft, Zinni and Kissinger.
I don’t know who the delegation was.
